Where should I go to have my battery tray replaced? Can any one on here do it for some $$?

How is it on a 3rd gen? On a 2nd gen, it can be replaced with 4 bolts.

How bad is it? Rust or worse? Clean it & POR15 it.

pretty rusty, I thought it was welded into the bay, ill look for bolts though..

Yeah, that bretty rust is a bitch. I had to hit it with an Anza brush and some Bimetallic Framis solution.

well considering its discontinued it does not help me, does it :( And it does not say if its bolt in or weld in..

CALL FOR AVAILABILITY!

Something like that could be welded now, but bolted later. I can't imagine more then a spot weld or 2 holding it.

Did I mention POR15?

3rd gen battery trays are welded in.

A remove and replace job will require cutting and welding.

Is it spot welded in? Drill out the sw and bolt in new, or have rewelded.

I'm in the same boat with my 88TA.

A cutting wheel, drilling bolt holes and bolting up a new tray is in my future as well.

Or relocating the battery to the trunk is possible.

Come to think of it I have the same problem. The bolt that holds down the battery rusted through I have to replace the tray also. Let me know how you make out so I can do the same.

The 4th gen battery tray is completely different than the thirdgen piece. The thirdgen battery tray is metal and welded in. The 4th gen piece also acts as the coolant overflow resevoir and is plastic. It can be replaced by simply swapping it out.

If i was plastic it wouldnt rust. So obviously it has some metal especially well it bolts down to it. I take it my battery just bounces around since there is no tie down to it anymore

So in your case the bolt for the battery tie down is rusted. There is a nut embedded in the plastic battery tray that it screws into. I would suggest using a heavy duty liquid wrench type oil and letting it soak. Remove the bolt and clean the nut with a wire brush, and either get a new bolt or clean up the old one. Install the new one with some lock-tite grease on it to prevent it from rusting again.

You shouldnt have to replace the whole tray/ resevoir.
