View Full Version : Got hit in the Vette :(

I'm driving into work in a good mood because the Vette's build sheet/window sticker came in today. I pull onto base following mid 90s caddy. He's about 20 feet infront of me. We both start slowing down as we come up to the gate and he decides that he missed his turn to leave base instead and slams his brakes and throws it into reverse. I jam the brakes drop it into reverse and before I can hit the gas the back of his car slams into my front passenger side    There are scratches from the front license plate area all the way to the top of the passenger blinker, and there are a few small cracks under the paint. The passenger front blinker lens is also cracked. :( I'll take pics on lunch. It's not bad at all, but now I have to go through the whole ordeal of getting it fixed.
Furious is not even remotely in the same category as when I'm feeling right now.

Not yet. I'm going to do it tomorrow when I get an estimate. I'm going to have the body shop see if they can work through his insurance company so I don't have to pay my deducatable

Yeah. The previous owner scuffed the front with a bra or something. All that is going away though :)

Definately not a good year for the Vettes on the board. I'm still looking for a nice black on mod red Z06 to replace mine that got flooded.

I know you could probably get most of them out, but a few of them are though the clear coat. It needs a repaint anyways.

That BLOWS Rob :( Definitely not a good year for the vettes, lol.
Yeah that bumper needs to be resprayed. I'd make sure they blend the right fender and the hood too since that blue can be a bitch to match.
Sorry bro :(

His insurance is paying for it. Hopefully I won't have to front the ins. deductable before they pay for it.

If you go directly through them there won't be any type of deductible. That's only if you go through yours to have it fixed.

Agreed. A guy I know got hit in his Superformance Daytona Coupe last week. A small rear-end fender bender, he only got a 4 inch scratch. Body shop bill to the other person's insurance? $4300. The other person's insurance adjuster was pissed and said "Why do our clients always seem to hit cars like this?" LOL.
That said, I hope that everything works out for you Jersey_TA. I hope your car comes back better than ever.

Thanks. I don't think the guy fully understood how much this is going to end up costing him. I know the new emblem is around $85 and the blinker lens/housing is probably upwards of $150, then paint = I wouldn't be surprised if the total was somewhere around $800+

I wrote up a quick estimate for you. R&I the bumper, 2hrs repair w/full paint, bumper emblem, turn signal lamp, blend both the right fender and the hood and some gingerbread stuff at the end(color sand & buff, car cover, hazardous waste etc) and I came in at around $940 using NJ labor rates and tax rate.
It was just a quick estimate but it'll give you an idea on what it should cost.
The emblem is $54 and the housing was under $100 if I remember correctly.
