Carb'd 350 - MPG?

Does anybody have an estimate on the actual MPG a carb'd chevy 350 gets? I know it is a "dumb" question but I'm going to be looking at a firebird that has a carb'd 350; since I travel above 50 miles a day it has a little impact on buying it.

depends on more then it being a carbed 350. cam, trans, rear gears, driving habits ... ect......

10 / 12 MPG is on avarage what it might get --but i am sure someone gets 20 but having 30 or more pickups with carbed 350s thats whatwe did get in city driving -- jz

As mentioned above, mileage can very greatly depending on the setup and your driving habits. To even make a guess (beyond saying "somewhere between 8-15") we'll need more information on the setup, and an honest evaluation of your driving style.

Agreed. 8-15 is what I'd say but there is a lot of stuff that can impact the number.

Well the engine has a mild cam, 650 cfm carb but is leaned out a bit... nothing crazy on it. The current owner says he can usually get 15 miles to the gallon or so ... with driving back and fourth to work I usually go at a nice crusing speed (55-65 mph) ... it's pretty much just a straight shot down rt 33 east so it's a nice easy drive.

...besides, I"m getting really crappy fuel econo in my jeep -- but at least with the GTA i wont mind spending the money on gas

if that doesnt have a crazy low gear im gonna guess 15-18mpg

depnding on the cam size and gearing it is possible to get 25mpg with a carb'ed 350, but it would have to be a pretty mild cam. if it is an automatic you shoudl also check to see if the TC still has lock up intact as that will dramatically effect the mileage(easy eough to hook back up if it isn't there, but a good haggling point)
driving habits are a very big deal with a carb since they do not adjust for mild to moderate load, they just dump in fuel. roll into it easy and roll off the gas when slowing and you will be fine.
