well, we finally got to actually run a whole evening of events without the weather getting in the way.
last night was the make up night for the "Mr.358" race. basically it is just a longer feature, 30 laps instead of the usual 20.
went out in the heat with a set up that has never been on the car before. randy too a few laps feeling it out and ended up 3rd. pretty uneventful, jsut had to sit around and wait for the feature.
the track was re-prpepped durin th eintermission and it was time for wholesale changes. another completely new set up went on the car for the 30 lapper. changed rear spoiler, ride height of the front end, 3 of the 4 times, rear gears, and air pressures.
before i describe the start, let me explain that they use a handicapping system to establish the starting order of the feature. basically, the more you suck the further forward you ge to start. the two guy who start on pole and outside pole every week, really really suck.
green drops, the two clowns at he front cause the usual jam up and randy's lane stopped. he was around 9th or so. a few laps later randy moved to the top groove and all of a sudden the car looked like it found new life and he started passing peole.
after working past a few cars the caution came out and randy was in 5th. one of the side effects of going so fast is that the tires get vey hot, when the caution came out the tires cooled off too much and the right rear sealed up. basically the surface of the tire had all the oil baked out of it and the face of the tire was now rock hard.
after the green came back out randy kept trying to get the car to work but the tires going off had basically screwed up the set up so he was just hanging on for the second half of the race. finished 8th.
we got a full night of racing in and leared a lot about some of the changes that we had been talking about that we finally did.

a little update to the update.
saturday night during the feature the track conditions lent themselves to barely getting out of the gas at any point during the lap. as you can well understand, extended periods of full throttle tend to warm up an engine, especially at 13:1 trying to breath through a 2brl carb.
how hot you ask? well, the first increment on the oil temp gauge is 140, the last is 325, the needle was closer to the 140 than the 325 at the end of the feature.
the solution, other than fresh oil and flushing out the cooler and lines, was to add 75 louvers to the belly pan for some more air movement across the engine.
hopefully we will not see another temperature like that again.
only other thing seen in the weekly engine maintenance is that it is running a touch rich, no big deal cause it still pulls down the straights with the best of them.
the weather prediction for saturday at bridgeport is a slight chance of a thunder shower in the morning and clear/sunny the rest of the day. who's coming to the port saturday night to watch double sportsman features? :)

Wait, no twisted metal, fist fights or explosions?

Was Timmay in the pits or just watching? Might be the difference right there. :)
