speed channel begins their 18 hours of coverage of the 24 hours of le mans :D
anyone planning to watch some? all?
unfortunately i have to work, but i already made my brother swear he woudl keep me up to date on all the happenings.
the line on the race is:
the audi LMP1 finaly has some competition and IT IS ANOTHER DIESEL RACE CAR!!!! thats right kids, the french peugot company has unveiled their weapon of choice and it is nasty. it is reported to have less power than the audi R10, but the aero kit is vastly better. should be interesting, i have to give the edge to audi still though. the R10 is a proven piece, it can take a shot, and it has more miles in racing alone than the peugeot has in the entire development of their new car.
LMP2, your guess is as good as mine. the mazda's are nasty fast....when they stay together. if they can manage to last, they shoudl have it their way, if not, the porsche has shown the best pace of the second class citizens.
GT1 will the corvette have it's way? maybe not. so many companies are claiming so many recent advances that they plan to run this weekend that it is hard to tel who will take the win. eveyrone is fast and 4 different manufacturers have had the fastest lap of the different sessions. the corvette is the most proven piece in the field, but with so many cars sharing the top pace, it will come down to who can maintain the sprinters pace the longest without making a mistake or having a failure
GT2 well, it is porsche country out there. although there are many other offerings, you can't beat a few billion miles of testing, practices, development, and competition. which one though? the flying lizzard guys are fast, as well as the players group, or maybe one of the european teams like the unofficial RUF team or one of the french private teams that seem to always have good luck there.
there is only one team on either side of the pond that has managed to put up a real fight with the porsche's this year, the team risi ferrari. they did win at sebring in the last corner, but can such a young team pull the upset twice in the same season?
shoudl be a good race, last few years the class win has been contested into the last hour and a few times into the final minutes of the race. much like GT1, i expect it to be whoever can maintain the sprinters pace the longest that will take the title :)
now if i could figure out a way to rig up tape machines to catch all the coverage so i can watch when i get home from bridgeport i woudl be set. hehe
