I want to get a hand tuner. I kno most ppl on here use LS1 Edit and such but i'm a new to the "computer tuining" idea and want something simple (I.E. something that asks me questions about what i have done to my car and "tunes" the car for me). I dont kno enough about tuning to sit there and get real intricate and specific about things.

I kno SLP has one, as well as Hypertech, and i think Cranes has one also. What are the differences between them? Which one is better and give you the most options and power? I kno there has to be differences b/c the SLP ones costs about $100 more then the Hypertech one.

Does anyone have experiences with them (good or bad)? Which one is the Best?

with SLP , everything costs 100dollars more it seems.. theres people on the boards that tune LS1s, or at least one person i know of who uses hptuners. you can get a tune for the same price as a handheld ($200+)i believe, and more stuff can be changed with hptuners

ls1edit is garbage, handhelds are generic junk programs, and mail order tunes are a back and forth to actualy get the tune right, and even then it is only right until you do more mods.
hptuners is easy to use, it has a great built in data logger, and it opens up dozens more parameters than any crappy hand held ever will.
if you don't know where to start once you buy hpt? they have a tune dump on their site you can search
want to understand more about how to take advantageof the program? the program and their web site have tons of help files and how to info as well as a huge forum with experienced people who can talk you through anything. not to mention the number of people on this board that have and use their software.
basically, spend a little bit more than a hand held or mail order tune and be your own tuning solution for the rest of the time you own the car. hptuners can easily be added to if you buy other cars as well, they have hundreds of applications to choose from.

o really? hmm...i didn't kno it was that good.

also, what do you mean by "generic tunes"? i thought those system were specific to one car. SLP's also says it tunes for what you have (ie parts). im confused

They're full of crap, basically. It's a highly conservative tune that abrely changes much, and it's not specific for your car.

+1 for HPTuners... you dont know the intracacies and all? That's fine... nobody was ever born knowing how to tune a car.

is this something that someone can learn on, or is this something that only someone who knows what they're doing should use? i don't want to FUBAR my car....so to speak.

I also noticed they sell a Pro version and a regular one. I guess i'd go with the regular one?
