another saturday night and another adventure from bridgeport speedway.
to start the night off we had a make up feature from one of the nights in may taht got rained out. randy was supposed to start 7th, someone scratched, so he got to start 6th. from teh drop of the green the car was fast. picked off 2 on the first lap. worked his way up to 2nd place and chased the winner to the checkers. really had nothing for the leader(much better funded team) but still took a few stabs at the lead before falling back a few car lengths. so randy scored his best ever feature finish, hell fo a way to start the day.
the heats for the evenings regular action came around and we got locked into a tire game. randy bought a new right rear before the make up feature and didn't really do anything to dmamage it, but the fast and abbrasive surface knocked a ton of tread off the right rear and f'ed the left rear up completely. so we went out on some older tires that weren't dead, but aren't in good shape. the result was a car that wasn't exactly right and randy couldn't do much of anything, started 3rd, finished 3rd.
on to the feature. the track was fast still and we thought we had the set up to take advantage. randy started 5th and was fast from the drop of the green. because we don't have some things that a better funded team woudl have, we had to set up the car to run the low groove even though it was obvious that top would end up being the faster way around.
never the less randy managed to get the car working well and was racing with the fast guys. after he fell back to about 6th because of a jumble up on the start, he worked his way back up to 4th and was hunting 3rd when the caution came out.
this is when things went wrong. green flag drops, randy starts to accelerate...........then suddenly nothing. the engine jsut died on the spot whiel rolling back into the gas on the restart. somehow everyone managed to miss him, but 3 guys behind randy got all piled up.
we don't know what the problem is yet. but it isn't good when you are using a top engine builder and the motor has broken twice in the same season. thereis a possibility it is something dumb, like the dizzy busted, but that hasn't really been the luck so far this year so i am not really counting on it.
if it is terminal, back to the old reliable 9:1 motor with 8billion laps on it and no HP. it isn't much, but we can limp the rest of the way through the seaon with it.
if anyone has a bunch of money laying around and they want their name on the race car of an up and coming driver, randy can definately use the help.
