I got a call today from Wheel Collision Center, and they told me my front wheels were bend on both the outside, AND the inside!:evil: REAL F'N NICE!
Nothing like having all kinds of construction going on, slowing ya down when ya gotta get somewhere...and not even fixing some dayum pot holes on a very busy road! :evil: :evil: :evil:

that sucks. your making me scared to drive the bird more so than I already am. I swear I look at the road condition more than the cars in front of me to avoid any potholes or whatever. Not safe at all.

That's why you want to run a wheel/tire that has sufficient sidewall to absorb the impact. I think 17's are the max I would run. For an older car I would go with 16's to get more modern rubber for handling, but still have enough sidewall. That suks you're wheels are bent. At least they didn't split in half and lose air pressure instantly!

Yeah, you are not kidding Jeff. There is so little performance gain when you go above 17s, the greatly increased potential of sidewall & rim damage makes it not worth it to me.
...of course I still might put 18s on the Z....LOL

Actually I've been surprised some of the bumps I have hit didn't lead to rim damage. My 18's are holding up well (knock on wood) but I think thats also helped by going with a slightly wider tire both in the front and rear.

Oh wow, nothing like having a couple of "suspension gurus" offering up their hot air. After you two are through Frenching each other, answer me this: if there is no advantage to larger wheels like 18s, why are the manfs. offering progressively larger wheels on their best handling vehicles? Cluck on that one, ladies! N' if you really need to know, the reason I went with 18s were for the handling potential, and the sizes I chose in 18s came close to matching the sizes I had with 15s, so I knew they would fit. You buttinskis have fun on yer bias ply L-60s! :evil:

I believe you do but hopefully my verts chassis will flex beautifully over the bumps so the rims don't take the hit lol. They look tooo damn good to go smaller so I'll just have to pray.

Exactly. Ever see the rim-change-only skidpad and slalom tests? 17s always do the best.

No argument here over the performance benefit of going from 17 to 18's. I put 18's on the car because I wanted the size and they filled the wheel wells out better to me. Plus...everyone goes 17's on TTII's and I wanted to be just a little bit different even though the style of wheel is fairly typical.

When you go around a corner with that nice suspension how far do the wheels roll over the sidewalls on the wheels you got on there now? At least my 16's dont do that :nod:

But I don’t have the scratch for the 255/45/17 - 285/40/17 combo!! And upgraded brakes to stop those big hoops!

18's are the new thing these days. They are on pretty much every new car on the market. I love my 18's even though I only drove on them for a week. The ride wasn't as rough as some people thing and I went with a pretty low profile tire too. Thank god for North Jersey roads, they aren't as bad as they are the further down the parkway you go.

Bob PA ranks up ther with some of the worst roads too but Nothing beats I 75 between Detroit and Toledo. I left Detroit testerday morning and at first could not figure out why everyone was doing 90 in the left lane. I soon past no less than six vehicles with flat tires due to pot holes the size of suvs heading in to a construction zone for a bridge. Thanks for the heads up though heading for the Jersey Shore Monday.

because those manufacturers don't drive in NJ! Think about it, most new sports car owners don't drive their cars daily on 18 or 19" wheels and 30 series tires. The bling, bling guys love em, but they don't actually drive their cars. The 17's on my SS are tough enough for a daily driver. I just hit a serious pothole tonight in a downpour and sounds like I have a noise as well. You can't drive a car on 18' or 19's on our roads plain and simple. Or if you do, be prepared to buy new wheels and tires on a regular basis. Putting 20's on a truck is no comparison because they still run 40-60 series tires which can absorb the pothole. 30-35 series tires don't have enough sidewall to protect the wheel. Lesson learned the hard way. I warned you when you first mentioned running 18's and I suggested 16's like I had on the Orange 68 Camaro. And nobody hits a road course on a regular basis so save the 18's and 30's for the road course!
