Anyone lowered?

I was debating on buying a set of lowering springs...

does anyone have their cams or birds lowered? What kind of troubles do you have? I hear driveways are a no-no.i was looking at a 21in lowering kit. Is a 2in drop too much?

It's a tough call depending on tire size, ground effects etc. I would suggest an adjustable height suspension like a set of Ground Control weight jacks.

That way you can set it to the optimum height for every condition. Drop it just a little for daily driving or slam it for weekend cruising.

i would do an inch at MOST on a 3rd gen with GFX lol, i have trouble keepin them in one piece at stock height

I'm lowered...didnt do it myself though. I actually bought the car with it already done...I think it looks much better. Speed bumps are NOT fun....major slope on a driveway...thats a no go either!! My cars not my DD so I dont run into to many problems.

I was thinking of just a .5 in up front for a raked look. I have stock 16s on now but im pickin up my new rim/ tire package tomorrow. 17in primeusa rims with nitto555 zr tires. 265 45 outback and 235 35 out front. It is a bisnitch with my drive way but i want to fill up my wheel wells better. my car is a daily driver but ill look into that adjustable kit. My friend has afjustables on his civic and he just pulls over, takes out the special wrench and boom, lower.

my friend lowered his 92 with the 2-1/2 springs and his exhaust scrapes on everything so I wouldnt go that low.

Another option for an adjustable height suspension would be A.R.T.'s Cool Ride air system:

You run a schrader valve under your hood for the fronts and into your trunk for the rears and use compressed air to raise it( from a compressor or gas station). To lower it, just let the air out. No need for annoying spanner wrenches and getting all dirty. Plus you can upgrade to an on-board air compressor system later on if you want to.

i have koni SA and strano springs. now my exhaust is so low, its almost undrivable. i cant get out of my garage without scraping, let alone driveway/bumps/etc. i wouldnt even think of trying a speedbump.

i have stock rear springs with no isolators and coilovers in the front

Intrax here, i have since put stockers in the rear until i can fab a new y-pipe for my LTs.

I do NOT recommend intrax, their kit advertised 2" drop all around, i got at least 5" front and rear. low isnt fun but looks damn good, for that reason i will keep my intrax springs.

Hypercoils on my car advertised 1.5 and no complaints. Sometimes the y-pipe scrapes on serious slants but I don't have problems going over bumps & such when I go at an angle.

with the qa1s set on soft and the soft front drag springs, i can make the air dam scrape when i hit the brakes hard enough on flat ground

i run a rare set of lowering spindles, 2" up front on my car... it was sooo slammed out, i had to get new springs and struts , and now it sits just right...

check on thirdgen.org in the suspension section, run a search for lowering springs,and u will find a TON of info, crazyhawiian is a good technical guy to talk to about it too

My Camaro is lowered 3/4 of an inch, and my Formula is lowered about 1 inch. Lowering makes the most difference while taking high speed corners (on top of making the car look wicked). But, it usually kills your traction especially on launches. If you have a spring compressor, you can swap a set of springs out in a garage or probably even a driveway. I did my Formula in a garage about a month or so ago. It's a pain to do, but its better than forking out how much shops will charge you these days.

I don't have any new pics of my Formula since I lowered it an inch a month or so ago, but here's some pics of my Z that is lowered 3/4 of an inch.

not by much. i have QTP headers, custom catted y (which hangs very low due to the enormous tubing they used), and a corsa catback

my 94z is lowered with eibach pro kit its about an inch an a half, I had the sportlines on it for awhile but I kept blowing strut mounts and scraping evarything. The pro kit is one of my fav mods

When you had the sportlines on your car, were you still running stock shocks, or a shock designed for a stock spring? If so, that was your problem.
