iPod & XP - help

OK, I just got handed a used little 1g iPod, the kind with no screen. It has a USB port at the bottom. I plugged it in and XP kind of recognizes it. How do I add mp3s to it? DO I need goopy software? BTW, I got about 2 hours to figure this out, LOL.

you can prob copy/paste but i'm not sure if the ipod will recognize them
or
you can install/uninstall itunes when you're done

yeah...download/install itunes. just make sure it doesnt override all your file associations
