I'm looking for an upgrade for my 3.4s T-5. Now, I'm looking to push her up to around 300+ft/lb torque so I was thinking about using a 3rd gen T-5 and getting G-Force gears but that amount I could get TKO to fit. Anybody know of any decent gears for T-5s?

t-5 FTL
just go right to a tko

Yea, the only semi-reliable upgrade for a T5 is G-Force internals, but I'm with Matt.....go straight to a TKO trans.

You do not have enough torque to break a stock t-5, why worry about upgrading?

or what JSP said...no idae what kind of power you plan on making but the t5 in my mustang held up to 300+ ft-lb regularly

well I'm hoping to be around 300ft/lbs BUT the T-5 used on the mustang and 3rd gen is stronger than the 4th gen T-5..mines rated for 230ft/lb so i was thinking about using the 3rd gen T-5 or a G-force gear kit cause I REALLY want to keep that 3.75:1 1st gear

3.75? wtf
mine had a 2.95  T5-Z

D&D makes good stuff from what I've heard. How wide are the ratios in your trans?
bubba428
07-15-2007, 08:40 PM
yea my 1st gear is 3.75 my 2nd is 2.19 3rd is 1.41 4th is 1.0 and 5th is .72
thats how i cut a 2.0 in February LOL

Well, FWIW I don't think such a wide ratio gearset is good for torque handling or keeping your engine in the power band.

Yea but if i put a T-56 in it that would be like starting in 2nd gear...not to mention the T-56 would require a special bell housing I'd have to have custom made.
WildbillyT...my 1st gear it VERY short but it helps the car to get rolling once I'm in 2nd she pulls pretty good(for a v6) all the way up to 4th and if 'm already going fast enough 5th ain't terrible either

yea i'd like to rebuild my T-56 and put in C5 ZO6 gear ratios w/ a 3.73 rear-end
GP99GT

a 3.75 first gear is useless if youre pushing enoguh power to break a t5...tirespin.
i had a 2.0 60' on a 2.95 first gear
bubba428
07-16-2007, 07:06 PM
you also had 2 more cylinders an ALOT more torque
GP99GT

read my post again....if youre pushing enough power to break it
i doubt youll break a t5 with a 3.4 unless you have slicks and dump it at 5k rpm

well see...i just have a bad feeling about that trans

key word...shouldnt
stock t5s are kinda a crapshoot....some hold up for a while, some break right away....kinda like a 10 bolt, or stock foxbody rear axles...some go 11s on them, some break them in the 13s

haha...well because of the god damn skip shift I think my 1-2 syncro might be boned. every now and then at over 5k rpm she won't shift
Tru2Chevy
07-25-2007, 10:01 PM
there is no skip shift on the T5....

Then how come theres a light on the dash, and it locks-out 2nd gear????? I've let other people drive it and the light comes on and no 2nd gear...
Blacdout96
07-26-2007, 10:06 PM
you dont have shift skip in that and thats not how it works.
yeah, skip shift is a little cylonoid that kicks the shifter from 1st to 4th if you shift at under 2500 rpm

in all seriousness, I believe you need to bleed your clutch, and check the fluid, because my truck had a small problem goign into 3rd sometimes, I bled the clutch and check the level in the trans and it stopped that problem, not only that your trans is probably beat to hell so everyhting inside is all chumpied up. No more slamming the trans around, take it easy, its just a
