I just got a check for $300.00 from NJ today:shock: It's supposed to be for property tax relief but I don't own a home??? Coincidently, my landlady was telling me about this rebate and that she would be splitting the rebate down the middle with me.

Who here knows the deal with this?

the landlady should have filled out a rebate application that has an id # and a pin # along with her ss# and some income info thats needed on it. i do mine online and then recieve a confirmation #, was the check made out to you? thats weird if it was. so now you can offer to split YOUR rebate down the middle with her

I know of other people who received it and never filled it out and don't own a home in NJ. This is why our taxes continue to climb.

:werd: and maybe why our rebate checks keep getting smaller each year. 1 year i got 600 then the next year 350 then 300 last year hopefully it will be 300 again this year.

if youre a tennant you get a rebate depending on what you paid per year for rent. we're getting rebates BECAUSE our taxes are so high.

Checks went to seniors & renters first.

Your rebate this year should be huge if you pay a lot in property taxes - I know we're getting back a lot more than we have in past years. If your gross income is $100K a year or less you get back 20% of the first $10,000 of property taxes paid. We paid $8800 in taxes last year for our little 2-bedroom/2 bathroom Colonial, so we get back $1600. Bergen County taxes FTL.

And Mike, that $300 is yours as a renter, don't split it with her. She should be getting her own rebate! Read all the stuff on this site - http://www.state.nj.us/treasury/taxation/index.html

Thanks all for the info.

Steve, I had no intention of splitting my check. I didn't even rent from her the entire year anyway.
