For hoping Hurricane Dean hits New Orleans? I just remember all the **** that went down there after Katrina and if it does happen I'm not going to help this time, they can go F' themselves. Maybe this time they will walk their asses out of the way.

From the movie The Crow: "What this city needs is a good, natural catastrophe." - hot dog stand owner
I wouldn't wish a hurricane on anyone. However I do hope they learned from the last one and scoop people up into busses and get them out. Plus having levies that won't break. :P

And don't shoot at your rescuers....that's my big one :) Looking at the models ( and talking to one of my buddies who is a Hurricane Hunter) this storm is going to be bad for someone. I think it will be a Cat 4 by tomorrow and a Cat 5 by the end of the weekend and most likely it is going to turn north into the gulf unless the jet stream moves north

The sooner it becomes a cat 5 the better for the US. Cat 5 storms don't stay cat 5 for very long so if it reaches that strength early enough it will hopefully weaken before hitting land. It looks now like it will most likely continue on a westward track so hopefully won't disrupt anything in the Gulf. As for NO, I still think it's a bad idea to rebuild a city below sea level and especially one that is sinking into the ground. It's a huge waste of money and resources.

I attended a funeral in Biloxi, MS 6 months after Katrina, and if you didnt know any better, you would think it was the week before. My friend was telling me all about how much better everything was than right after. I wouldnt wish that on anyone.

I wouldn't wish that on anyone...but I understand what your saying. the city needs to be let go, fixing N.O. is like playing Jenga. You spend all that time(and in this case millions of dollars) only to have it knocked down again.

Gulfport and Biloxi actually got the worst of it IMO. The news was so focused on the jack-off's that didn't leave NO they didn't even really cover what happened in the other gulf states. Most of gulfport and biloxi were just flat, nothing left standing for mile sinland. Some hotels got ripped off their foundations. But the people that lived there evacuated and afterward they started to rebuild instaed of rioting and looting and murdering each other so it wasn't newsworthy.

Unfortunately there is a high pressure ridge that is int he way by mexico that is going to push it north into the gulf unless it disippates. Cat 5 storms normally don't last long because they hitland, if you remember Ioke last year it was a Cat 5 for 9 days (actually it went to Cat 4 twice, but by 1 MPH) because it was over water and had sustained winds of over 195MPH at one point with gusts over 200 and crusie dform east of Hawaii all the way to a few hundred miles from Japan. I actually think it will be better for it to hit Cat 5 closer to the states because as long as it is over water and has good convection without alot of windscheer it will continue to build and then when it hits the continental shelf it may not weaken fast enough. If it gets up to something nuts like 200MPH winds over open water it will die to maybe 165 as it crosses the shelf and still make landfall as a Cat 5. However if it gets to Cat 5 status a day before hitting land and has winds of 155MPH it would most likely drop to 125-135 before hitting land. Your still screwed, but your house will only be 1 state away instead of 3. Best case you get some strong high level windsheer from the jetstream moving south and it will cut off the high level convection and force it to dissipate. even 200MPH winds are no match for a jetstream going 300+ MPH.

Either way it doesnt matter. My friends funeral had to be held in a church other than his own, cause like you said, most of the area was flattened. Trying to find the place at night was near impossible. The signs were non existant, side roads still had debris, and the buildings that you could have used as landmarks were gone.
They still had hundreds of people come out, and those people all came out of thier homes and paid respect as the funeral procession went by. The whole fire dept stoof in front of the station at attention, and had a huge American flag draped from the ladder truck. The cemetary had another truck with flag, and the Patriot Riders all stood along the sides with smaller ones. Even though those people lost so much, they cam out to pay respect to someone who made the ultimate sacrifice. I dont think that would happen here.
