why is it bad to tow a RWD car with a tow dolly? thats all. uhaul says not to do it and penske says you can but the driveshaft must be disconnected. i dont get it. my buddy did it with his chevelle. a good couple hundred miles as well

if you do, you're supposed to back it on so the drivetrain isnt spinning the entire time.

i usually only tow FWD cars with a tow dolly, the main reason being you can lock the steering wheel and have it in park ON the dolly incase a strap comes loose.

its for the tranny. cuz when the car isnt running its just dry spining. if its an auto, back it on and leave the wheel unlock. we towed my buddies 83 fireturd that way home from penn(state college to danbury ct)

The reason is that the wheels will move certain internal parts of the transmission that need lubrication, but that comes from the engine running the pump.
edit: damn ... little late

You will end up dragging the Camaro all the way to Connecticut. I would go with a full trailer.

Jake I rented a full on Trailer from U-Haul for $75 bucks for the day and just had to buy a class 3 hitch ($35) for my dads Pathfinder. If you need to borrow the hitch just let me know and its your for the day.

my truck could tow ur car and trailer no problem but i was thinking bout doing something like that on the side for some quick money. my truck can handle 8K no problem(long as the tranny is outta O/D lol) only go thing bout tht gas hog magnum 360 and 4.10s

yeah i'm sure my saturn could do it if i had a class 3 on it, but i doubt the chassis would make the drive feel very safe. its kinda demasculinizing (is that even a word?) to have to use your moms car for towing.
in any event, mark my words. my first purchase when i graduate law school will be a chevy truck of some sort with the new 4.5 diesel.

close, but no cigar. emasculating is what you were looking for, if you meant:
1. to castrate.
2. to deprive of strength or vigor; weaken.
3. deprived of or lacking strength or vigor; njspeeder; effeminate.

all of em are too busy. eastside was the only one willing to squeeze it in. not to mention i heard they were one of the better dyno tuners in the area.

bringing this back up. my car won't start and i have to tow it tomorrow. any idea on how to get a car onto a trailer that doesn't move under its own power?

Go to Home Depot and buy a come-along and ratchet the car on. Takes a while but will get it done. Not too expensive IIRC either.

thats what i was thinking. never tried it though. i can't think of any points in the middle of the car so i may just do it from an a-arm
edit: all done. i found my AAA membership number and now its getting towed instead :)

Yeah, BTDT. I had to push a 4000+ lb Chevelle onto a 4 post lift- which doesn't seem like that big a deal but the TH400 had HD stuff in it that made it extra tough to turn.
