After a year and a half of a constant battle with my mom having cancer, we finally got the word last week she was free and clear. An absolutely joyous time finally until today. My dad took my dog "Taz" to the vet today because he has been limping on his front paw for a week. He plays hard and always does something to hurt himself but usually snaps out of it quickly. Well my mom just brought him back after they took some xrays and sure enough hes got cancer, it has spread quickly. They can amputate the limb but it wont do any good. They gave him a month to live. He has been my best bud for over 12 years. Hes had a great life, hes still so full of energy, you would never know hes getting old. Had it not been for the white face, one would still think hes a pup. Its gonna be a rough one, please everyone just put him and the rest of my family in your prayers. We are hoping he can beat this thing and live a little longer than expected, but only time will tell. I really am going to miss that old guy, hes the best dog anyone could ever ask for.
Here he is, in the middle. It was taken a few years back. Im gonna make sure I take lots of pics throughout the next few weeks, and I will make sure I keep this thread updated.

sucks man. My one dog is 16 and I know its going to be time to put her down soon. I can't remember not having her around. She doesn't look old, but her actions and movements prove otherwise.
Good luck to ya....

eh not very well man, thanks though. He has been a big part of this family like any dog is to a family. Right now he is still doped up on the meds from the vet today, but Ill imagine he will fight this as much as he can till the end.

So sorry to hear Jon......that's never an easy thing to hear.
My brother woke up this morning to find that the last of his 3 original guinea pigs had died in the night......he took it pretty rough.

what he said. losing a pet is like losing a brother or sister. just don't let him suffer too long, k?

Hes not going to suffer at all. As long as he continues to eat, drink, and has some mobility left and he doesnt seem in pain he will be fine. Thanks everyone, my mom is getting better every day, this whole ordeal has been tough on her and the dog situation isnt helping at all. Hes a strong pup, hes going up and down the stairs just fine on three paws (to get to the back yard) until I can make him a ramp tomorrow. Hes a champ!

Great news about your mom. But I'm terribly sorry to hear about your dog. My mom's been battling a form of leukemia for a number of years now and I lost my dog back in 2004 to cancer, so I can empathize with you quite a bit. Putting my dog down was one of the hardest things I had to do. You just have to know when the time comes that it's the best thing for them.

Well, the vet said a month and we went a little longer. Today was the end though. He could not muster the strength to get up any longer, and was in pain. He did great for a while, but it was too much the past few days. We had to put him down this morning :-( His birthday was last week, so he made it to 13. A great friend of mine was laid to rest this morning because the fight got to be too big.

That's a bummer. Our dog is 12-1/2 now and she's starting to trip over things more often so I'm not looking forward to that scenario.

Sad to hear, man. It's something all us dog lovers fear. But it was the right decision. Just know he's in a better place.

Thanks everyone! Yeah he definitely is in a better place. The other two dogs are still trying to figure out what happened I think, they have never both been away from him for long. My black lab is starting to sniff around where he used to hang out, she doesnt have anyone to play with anymore :-) she would probably squish the cocker spaniel

Thanks again guys, tomorrow will be a new and fresh day...I think the family as a whole is doing better than I thought, but the two other dogs still are unsure I think. Tomorrow will be reality for them though that he isnt coming back.
