Check it, and tell me what ya think...
I have an 87 Buick T-Type that has been sitting for a couple of years, and little by litle I've tried to fix the problems that pop up. Well, Big Jon and I got it running again after it had been sitting, and I pretty much knew that the full tank of gas it had was going to be bad. Sure enough, the fuel pump took a dump, so I dropped the tank to get the pump out. Turns out it has a "double pump" set up, where one pump is used all the time, and another pump is actualted under boost. I found out the originator of this pump set up, and I gave him a call. He basically told me to send the set up to him [he is in Ohio], and he would check it out for free. He said he would call me after he checked it out. Well, I sent the pumps in, and I didn't hear from him after a decent amount of time. So, I called him up. He told me he hadn't looked at the pumps yet, but would call me after he did. Yeah, right. Well, a pretty long stretch of time goes by. I didn't hear from him, and It had slipped my mind to call him. So, over a 2 week period I tried calling him many times, w/o getting an answer. He is an old school, one man operation, so there are no emails, websites, or even a friggin' answering machine. I kinda get the idea he works when he feels like it. Anyway, I'm bugging out, because I can't get a hold of him. So, I write him a letter, asking him to call me ASAP. Well, a week goes by, and I don't hear anything. I call him again, and finally get him. He friggin' admits to getting the letter, and told me he had put the pumps aside and "forgot" about them. Friggin' great. So, he tells me he can put 2 new pumps in, and it will be X amount of dollars. He told me he would put the set up together over Labor Day weekend, and get 'em out to me. Since I have him on the line I ask him if he accepts credit cards, and he says "Yes." So, I pay him, reaffirm that the pumps will be in the mail after Labor Day, and get on with life. Well, Labor day was almost 2 weekends ago, and I still haven't seen/heard anything. I tried calling him 3 or 4 times today, and he didn't answer the phone. Welp, needless to say...I'M PISSED! The guy has my pumps AND my money, and I don't know what the fook to do. I'm temped to see if I can get ahold of the cops in his town to see if they can do anything, but I dunno...I feel so friggin' screwed!

Tell him you are going to do a charge back if he doesn't ship them out. The shame of this is that he seems like a specialist, and if he doesn't help you then you are really screwed.

Gee! Sounds like the first guy that said he could tune my car! took my parts and money and then vanished!

I say cancel the credit card and get something else from another vendor that has customer service, If he sends it back and it's not right or if it fails again in the future then your stuck dealing with him again!

Check on the Turbo V6 board and see what thry are running, I bet Racetronics makes setups for your car!

im just wondering why you even bothered to continue using the dual pump setup...one big pump can do the job just as good. unless there were irreversible modifications made to your fuel tank for it to work, then thats a different story

couldnt you have used an inline pump?

I didn't want to have to re engineer the wheel, and the car was set up for this kinda pump. I have too many other things I need to do to the car, so I figured I'd stick w/ what I have. But since I've been dicked around so much I prolly coulda just did a single pump set up w/ less hassles.

If the payment already went thru then the solution is:

ROAD TRIP!

I agree with John. Time for a little drive. The weather is starting to turn and, the leaves will start to change soon so, go for a ride.

X3. its whata 4 hour drive to Ohio? I'd do it, cause what would be a better answer from him then by see ing him in person as to why he hasent calle, answered, or even shipped them out, and if he forgot, tell him he better have made some time to get it done cause your not leaving without them!!

Your imposing presence will scare him into working on it right away. Seriously, if you are pissed off enough to go see him, this guy will freak out and get his act together. Or at least you get the part/money back.

Or you could sell me the boo-ick for like 5 dollars and you wouldn't have to worry about it.

i would go for a drive and cancel the cc payment. if you get it back i can help you out. it is a easy swap to put 2 new pumps in and they only cost 200 100 each. i hope he did not charge much more then that especially since new double pumpers only cost 450

Welp, I dropped him another line in the mail, telling him to chit or get off the pot. I also told him I expected a phone call once he receives the letter. If this doesn't go down I guess I'll be heading out to Ohio for a personal visit. I always did want to go to the rock and roll hall of fame...

yes, he could have.

there are inherent problems with inline pumps that you don't find with in-tank. since they most likely operate all of the time, there is a heat issue. if the pump is submerged in fuel, as the in-tank version is, then you have far fewer failures due to heat. since it is already setup to use dual pumps in the tank, there really is no benefit to running two pumps outside of the tank, other than ease of access should you need to swap them out. dropping the tank isn't as big a deal as most people make it out to be.

This kind of situation sucks UB. You put trust in someone to come through for you and they can't make it happen. He should just return your parts and the money at this point. If he is truly that busy and knows he won't get around to it then why bother holding on to the stuff! He should have never taken money until he was actually working on it. Hopefully he will make it a priority and get it done so you don't have to change anything else in your setup. We want to see the turbo running!

You said it. Welp, I'm dropping another letter in the mail today, telling him to chit or get off the pot. I did a "Mapquest," and it is about a 7 1/2 hour ride out to him. So, if I gotta go out there I guess I can also take a ride over to the Rock and Roll HOF to make the trip worth while.

Honestly, I would give a couple more phone calls...and if you don't receive a response in a day or two, feel free to give that CC company a ring and have a charge back issued.

If you have the time and don't mind spending the gas, certainly take a ride out there but don't be surprised if he isn't there or "available". Good luck dude, it's unfortunate that you have to deal with this crap because people just don't know how to run a business or atleast deliver a product in a timely fashion.
