my friend failed at state inspection with his STOCK (not a THING changed from the factory) STI for:
his "aftermarket hood scoop" which apparently measured (the way they did it) over the legal height.
and his "aftermarket wing" which was an obstruction of view.
He had to stay at the inspection station arguing for an hour telling them to call subaru and verify everything since they refused to believe it was unmodified

ya dude the dmv station good F up a wet dream!:-x
my buddy went in there his s-10 and it had an aftermarket steering wheel and they swore that it was too small to be legal when in fact it was well in the legal limit...so they argued untill the guy at the DMV actually measured the wheel! made him look like a total idiot:rofl:

yeah I hate dmv. When I first got my Camaro it failed for emissions. The guy said fix it and come back. He was a really nice guy. Well it turned out my cat was bad. So I replaced it and returned and got some b****h women. They failed me again cause they said my trans indicator was missing. I told them that the last time they didnt say anything about it and she told me its up to the individual inspector. Thats BS.......

the dmv is just a dinosaur plain and simple...old and not willing to change....they have no competition so they dont give a damn about better service
this is why all my inspections are done at garages it may be 60 bucks but i always pass

I think about this once in a while since my Formula taillights have black spiderweb stripes. I know it is illegal to put stripes or covers over stock taillights, and I'm amazed I never had inspection issues with my stock taillights with stripes.

are you kidding? that is total bs, i hate the dmv and inspections and everything that goes with it. They tried to fail my cavalier for an exhaust leak....when the the exhaust was so new it still had the tags on it and the inside of the pipe didnt have carbon build up yet....AFTER the idiots looked under the car i passed.

Had a 94 Ranger and went to inspection in 2000 after having my brakes done. DMV failed me because the brakes were grabbing too hard. ?????????WTF?
I had a problem 2 years ago when I went to get my motorcycle inspected. The inspector tried to fail me because I didn't have a visor on my helmet. I told her I'm on a cruiser not a crotch rocket. Then she gave me crap @ my eyewear. I had a pair of shop glasses. She told me they were no good. I told her they were ok according to OSHA and she could shove it. She came back 5 min later with my sticker. Yeah, FU:twisted:

It's too bad the Ridgewood inspection station shut down. From my experience they were the best.

Negative. The old bastard there said that my car was too loud, and that it didn't matter that the tenafly cops said it wasn't. His own words, with my dad as my witness: "The cops are wrong"

When I had taken James' car that started all this talk, they took the registration and insurance, which both say Firebird, and then looked at the side decals, which say Trans Am, and were questioning the discrepancy. The guy who failed it for being too loud was the one questioning it, though he didn't ask me, he asked his coworker.
I just laughed. If that's what it failed for that would have been even funnier, lol.

ridgewood owned! my 88 failed emmisions there, i brought it back with a new O2 sensor and i pulled in n the old guy said his son in law has the same car. i failed emisions again that day, but when i got to the end of the line he goes to me, yea it failed emmisions over there, but it passed over here, as he slapped a new sticker on :)

they dont know the name is technically a Firebird Trans Am ? wow. you'd think after what 30-some years of the car being actually produced they'd get that right

Well, the DMV was always place to be feared. Lines extending to eternity, waiting years to have your named called just for a new license, very rude workers. But that's been fixed. At least in my recent experience, it's gotten a lot better. The last few times I was there to renew registration or my license, I was in and out. Maybe if people do something, write to congress, file complaints, something...maybe we can get the inspection stations fixed.

What I hate is different inspectors fail you for different things. I had a 98 Mustang Cobra with Saleen pedal covers on it. These are the covers that came on the Saleen Mustangs from the factory. They failed me for them one year. The time before that and the time after they did not. Somehow they never noticed my clear corner lamps though.

the only problem is that the inspection places are independently owned n operated, i think by a company called Parsons up here
and ive passed with clear corners on everything, as long as the light bulb is the proper color theres no prob

Ditto. NY DMV is PAINFUL. It took me 5 1/2 hours to get my driver's license renewed.
I went to Jersey City DMV to get plates for the Camaro, and I was in and out in 15 mins, and it was at 6:15 on the location's "late" day! I was stunned!
