i didnt know exactly where to place this post so longue should do. ok so here's the story. Tonight im on my way home from work and notice i need some gas so i pull into the gas station and get the same amount of gas i always do take off and proceed. couple minutes later my check engine light comes on i'm thinking to myself man i hate those dam people they never tighten the gas cap the right way. so i pull over and get out and retightin it. i start it back up and shift into drive and get a massive jerk forward. then i notice the car wont shift out of 1st until like 4500 rpms and the same with 2nd gear. my check engine light goes off and i just ignore the shift seeing as how i thought it would gio away. now im up to 4th gear (i drive a A4 94 z28) and im thinking everythings ok. so i floor it and the car doesnt kick down. i try and try but no luck it just stays in 4th. i pull over and turn it off and turn it back on. start driving again and it shifts perfectly. now what happens if it does this evey once in awhile does this mean the end of my tranny :-( help a fellow f-body member out :-). what u guys think?

Moved to the transmission forum for you......sounds like you definitely have some issues, but I don't know transmissions well enough to help you.
Best bet is to pull the code(s) from the computer that set off the check engine light.

You need to have the codes read to get a better idea of what's going on.
And by the way- if something appears to be wrong, don't floor the car trying to get the problem to clear up. That's a great way to make a little problem much worse.

the check engine light went off.
the pcm still stores whatever codes were thrown even if the light has gone off. Just don't unhook your battery before scanning the codes

Sounds like a servo is either going bad or the electrical connection to it?
Was the trans rebuilt or apart recently? If you can get the car up in the air double check the electrical connections.
if it happens again, try resetting the ECM ( pull fuse for 30 seconds ). This will sometimes reset it so you can drive it home ( note each time you stop at a stop signs or lights you might need to reset each time! )
