Hey Gang,
We have received a wide variety of suggestions to make our meets more interesting and enjoyable for 2008. In this poll I am going to list some of the cooler sounding ideas that have come in.
Please take a minute to look over the options and vote for the idea(s) that you find the most interesting.
1. Wiffle Ball and BBQ: Just like it sounds pretty much. The suggestion of an eternally silly game of wiffle baseball to our already fun July BBQ in the park that has become a Central tradition.
2. Cruizin' to the Movies: The idea is to hold a charity car show to benefit a local or regional organization in the state. We would be working with a movie theater to allow us use of a portion of their parking lot to hold the benefit car show. Car show entry fees would get the car entered in the show and a pass to a special screening of some traditional hot rodder movie. A film along the lines of American Graffiti or something similar.
3. Poker Run: Poker runs are popular among the harley crowd and many classic car clubs like to do them. The premise is simple, you drive from point to point and at each stop location you pick up a playing card. Wommever completes the cruise, collecting cards at each stop location, and can put together the best poker hand with the cards they collected is the winner. What they would win I really don't know, but we will come up with something. Starting and ending points would likely be places to eat, the ending being a good spot for dinner or a late lunch.
4. Ski Trip: This is something that j0n actually did on his own last year and had a good amount of interest in. With a little more advanced planning and the bargaining ability of a group our size we can certainly work on a good deal for lift tickets, ski/snowboard rentals, and some sort of meal to sit down as a group. It would definately be our most expensive club meet as far as individual costs, but it would be a whole day compared to the 4 hours or so we usually spend together.
5. January Buffet Meet: Last year we had pretty good success and a nice sized crowd at the Firkin Tavern for our January meet. We were thinking about stepping it up a bit to a place with better food and a wider variety of offerings. Costs would rise from the $20-25 per person that this past January's meet cost to about $35-40 per person. This would include appetizers, family style pasta on each table, choice of 3 entrees, soft drinks/coffee/tea, and desert. A cash bar will also be available for those over 21.
6. Track Rental: We get a ton of requests for this one. To work, a track rental woudl rely on EVERYONE prepaying for the day of runs. Most tracks do not have any problem with us having a BBQ grill or two making burgers and such, so the food side of the deal would be taken care of.
These options are really just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the ideas that have been suggested. There are a few suggestions that we have already decided to follow through with for 2008. More information on the meets we are already working on will be announced as soon as we get things locked in.
