New RWD Performance Sedan to Start Under $28k
DETROIT, Oct. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Pontiac today confirmed pricing for its new rear-wheel drive G 8 performance sedan will start at $27,595 when it hits the streets in early 2008. The V-8 powered G 8 GT will be available for $29,995.
"The G 8 represents the next phase in Pontiac's commitment to bring seductively designed, high-performance vehicles to the showroom floor," said Craig Bierley, Pontiac marketing director. "Our dealers and customers have been anxiously waiting for this vehicle since we first showed it at the Chicago Auto Show in February, so we're really excited to get this car on the street early next year."
The G 8 is powered by a 3.6 -liter VVT V-6 engine and five-speed automatic transmission and comes equipped with a number of standard convenience and safety features, including StabiliTrak electronic stability control, six airbags and OnStar. The G 8 GT ups the ante with a 6.0 -liter V-8 mated to a six-speed automatic transmission and additional standard equipment.

that is a bit higher price point than i expected. i thought the idea of the G8 was to rip people away from the entry level bimmers, not try to match them stride for stride.
i also expected pricing to more closely reflect a 4 door alternative to the impending camaro debute for the suckers with kids to cart around. it is still there for the uper middle young family market, but not the average young family i think.
gonna sell a lot of units either way, jsut not to the people i thought they were gonna go for.
i would liek mine in black please.kthnxbye

base, v6 camaro, will be a good bit less than that according to all the info they have come out with so far. the base V8 will be around the base V6 G8 pricing.
at least that is what the rumors have been so far.

a base 328i is right at 32k i believe. only about a 2k buffer when you are trying to win out over a nameplate and reputation like BMW isn't really that much to sway people to the G8 i think.
relying on the more frugal shopper vs blowing the competition away on value like the Z06 and caddy V-series is what i mean. i expected them to price low to move units.
then again, it is another australian car, there may be an import limit jsut like the GTO had.

But a 3 series is really a small car. This thing appears more in line with a 5 series, sizewise.

from the listd specs it would appear that the inteior and storage room is somewhere in between a 3 and a 5. maybe that is what will make the bargain, still have to overcome the nameplate thing. i think that is the toughest part.

it's also a bigger car than the 3 series and more the size of a 300C if not a touch larger. I am seriously thinking about picking one of these up next year and I'm def going to mod it lightly. Its going to be the new DD so I think a tune for premium gas, intake and exhaust will get me some solid power...hopefully over 400. I think the price is very reasonable and with my lady's GM discount, it's going to pay for a few nice options. I can't wait.

All I know is come October of 2010, both my cars will be paid off. Not planning on selling the Hawk, but I would definitely consider possibly trading in or selling the Cobalt for one of these. Although, I do like the new CTS much better .

Manual trans option?
C&D is reporting late 1st year or 2nd year, but could be crushed by CAFE.

Manual trans option?
Supposedly 6-months after the car's release.
No XM and no NAV option is REALLY going to hurt sales. You want to go up against BMW? Offer some damn bells and whistles for Christ sake, that's what Americans want, we like our electronic toys and stuff...
They come out with a sharp car and they skimp out on 2 things that some of their other vehicles already have, bad move on GM's part...

THat is what I was going to say, and base on a 5 series is around 45K. I know that kind of price difference would attract me to G8, even if I wasn't already biased.

i completely agree with this statement. its ridiculous for any car at this time to not have such options such as nav, sat radio, bluetooth, some ridiculous sunroof, awd, or even such pointless things like push button start or a fancy key. thats what sells cars these day

I agree that they should have those options available but it will not sway me. I don't bother with XM and have a great portable GPS unit if/when I travel. Much cheaper both ways but this will obviously bother some people who use those devices constantly.

I think it is mainly the styling or lack of a stand out flagship car, but I think this generation of Pontiacs is the least appealing of all.

I was expecting more of a GTO price tag to be honest. Around $33,000. Def not a bad price

a little under powered??
Blackbirdws6

maybe a little but running on 87 octane will make it a little bit cheaper on fuel. As I said before, intake, tune and maybe exhaust and I would expect over 400 crank hp out of it.

It will not go against BMW of any flavor. Its as big as a 5 series, a little shorter and lighter then a Charger, but quality matches the Germans.
It is matched against the BMW and MB in Europe, but they talk about how its almost half the cost of a 5 or E class and offers just about the same stuff.
V6 will start at under 28k, V8 under 30k. That matches the LX cars's pricing, which it will go against. All the major mags are putting out its review of it. They are just fine tuning it for US spec. The 6spd manual will not get the AFM V8, so they will have to recert a new engine and the Tremec 6060 6spd manual trans, and the 6spd manual will get the gas guzzler tax this time, unlike the GTO which got it on the auto version.
G8 is a touch shorter then the Grand Prix as well. If you are looking for a 4dr muscle sedan, this will be it. Underpowerd? 0-60 times are supposed to be 5.3, which is what the 04 GTO's ran, and damn near right next to the LS1 fbodies as well as the new Mustang GT.
Underpowerd? For 2 tons...not even close.
