Yea just venting a bit. PS3 ***** the bed today. Won't read any discs and won't even load a demo on the HD. I've had this thing less than a year. It was a gift from my lady for Xmas last year. Luckily I got a 3 yr warranty at Target along with Sony's 1 yr warranty. They will prob replace the system but they give you a used one in return...foook that. $600 machine is a nice shiny paperweight.

The 360 is the way to go, but my son has had "THREE" of them go down the crapper. He took out the warranty, but still they have had a LOT of problems with their systems also.

They had a lot of heat issues with early models, but supposedly have it all worked out now. Microsoft also give a 3 year warranty against general hardware failures with all of their 360s.

most stores scan the serial key which is one the machine. so, unless you make a huge scene, than i doubt you can do it

That sucks, I honestly wouldnt pay 6 bills for a video game...Im taking my gamecube, ps2, all my games and trading them in on a used 360 or the less expensive one w/ insurance...Few sports games and Forza 2 and im done :)

I may pick up a 360 sometime in the future but I don't see a huge need at the moment seeing as I'm not a big halo fan. Fun game but I get bored of it fairly easily. PGR4 looks pretty sweet as well but again...I can wait. I dig the PS3 a lot (especially since it was a gift) but it has its downfalls. The system needs more good games and hopefully that will come soon.
I'm actually shocked the thing took a crap on me because there are stories of PS3's failing but not to the extent of the 360. I just started having problems with it after it's recent 1.93 update...even though it was just to correct network stability issues. Others have mentioned the same problems after this update so I think it's weird. Oh well, I'll be heading to the store in the next few to get the POS replaced....I better get an 80gb.

the serial number on my gamecube was on a sticker... just heat and release, then swap them. if i get a new console, which is highly unlikely, i will be purchasing the extended warranty. doesn't sound like any of them last worth a damn.
but, to the original post, brian, do you smoke? have a high dust environment? keep your console on the floor? all of these things will tend to murder the console prematurely. just a heads up for your next system.
there really isn't much you can do about a high dust environment except put a filter on the outside of the draw side of the system. if it draws enough air, you don't even have to secure the filter, just slap it up there and the draft will keep it in place. same thing for smokers, as far as filters go. you definitely want to keep the sludge that comes from cigarette smoke out of your console... and they state in the manual that the systems should not be on the floor... carpet fibers, pet hair and extra dust/dander/dirt from the carpet will clog the fan.

I do not smoke or have what I consider a high dust environment. I have wood floors with a couple area rugs. My ps3 is in the vertical position on top of my ~6ft entertainment center stand so again it shouldn't have any heat or dust issues. Hopefully the new one will last a little longer than 10 months.

i got pgr4 for the 360 and when i turned the system on i got the red ring of death. i was having problems on the last 2 levels of halo3 with the system freezing, so i guess i knew it was coming. mine is a day one system so i guess it was only a matter of time. microsoft is fixing it free and paying shipping but they tried to make me feel better by saying well your warranty is up but we now are giving a 3year free so you are in luck. btw the ps3 is a great hdmi, dvd , blu-ray player that is about all i use it for.

ill buy either a 360 or a PS3 eventually. i wont pay more then $250 for either of them. in my eyes its not worth it, considering i built my comptuer for $700 and it does alot more then both of them.
