Well went with my buddy to take back my ps3 at target. I have a 3 yr extended warranty and figure it may be tough to get a new one on the spot so see what happens. We got there and the piece of trash lady at the counter says that I need to call the number on the service tag. We explain the problem but she just wants to sit in the back and no do anything.

We call the number and they say that since its not over a yr, then its Sony's problem and they won't touch it. So I get into it with the guy on the phone but its not going anywhere. I go home pissed with my broken PS3 and I give Sony a call. Guy on the phone was cool and is sending me a box to ship it in. He assured me I will be getting a new unit and not a refirbished. Lastly, he mentioned that the warranties at these stores are POS and give him hell all day.

So long story short, nothing is ever freakin easy! As I was on the phone with the Sony guy, my friends that stopped by were all drinkin and playing the Wii lol.

that's because target is an extended warranty which kicks in after the manufacturer warranty expires. It's pretty standard practice.

It's still BS though. The only benefit of having it in the first year is that they will reimburse for extra charges that may incur. This being standard practice is pretty crappy IMO. I would think if I bought the warranty through them, they can go through the hassle of sending the unit back, exchanging, etc.

they just want the money, they don't want to have to do anything to earn it. unfortunately, somewhere along the line it became big bucks to department stores to sell extended warranties. anytime you buy electronics, the register operator is prompted to ask you on her register screen. i usually always tell them no, since i rarely have a problem after the first year and inside of three. if you are going to find a problem with electronics, it's usually apparent inside of the first month or so. just be thankful that sony has a warranty at all. some electronics offer zero warranty. :(

my mom bought the extended warranty on my ti-89
but it also covered it being stolen which, in HS isn't a rare occurrence

On average, the xbox's have had many many more failures than the PS3. I'm ranting about the ****** customer service. I was never really concerned about getting the ps3 taken care of it's just I imagined it being a bit easier in my mind. Xbox has their act together with it because they have had a very good deal of experience replacing/servicing these units.
