Hi All, need some help.

Backround: I pulled the 305 from my 1984 T/A and replaced it with a 355 some years back to race and ever since the dyno emissions I never really kept it on the road (did not think it would pass). Now that the kids are getting older I would like to get it back on the road legally and set up the 355 I have to pass inspection (dyno test for me). The engine is solid with the following parts and I would like to keep it in place:

> - 9.5:1 TRW forged pistons
> - 4 bolt splayed mains
> - 66cc 305 ported heads
> - Edelbrock egr manifold # 3701
> - Edelbrock performer cam # 3702
> - Edlebrock tubular exhaust system with cat back 3" flowmaster system
** I would like to change this over to the Hooker setup.
> - EGR valve is present and functioning with the edelbrock carb.
> - MSD ignition box 6A, with GM HEI vacuum advance distributor
** I need to replace the cat.

Questions:
1. Can anyone post the current emission standards/results for a 1984 305 (or something similar)? Don't know what they are for my car, need to baseline.

2. Do you think this setup will pass (I will have to get a new two way cat since not running AIR), or should I convert it over to electronic full injection w/provision for EGR and emissions?

Thanks
Paul

it will be close, my old 350 passed with a holley 600, new cat and egr. it would not pass with the 650 demon tho, running a little rich for the state... passed with flying colors on everything else tho.

You passed on the dyno test with a Holley carb and no computer?

You can do it....it's all in the tuning (depending on your setup).

Well, I used to run the Holley DP 650 carb (long gone).

My carb right now is the EDL-1400 (emission carb). Do you think I should just re-jet/rod it to run on the leaner side? I would think the MSD should help some also to ensure a good burn.

Not too lean then it will fail emissions as well.

Get a new cat in it and go to a local station and see where it is at. Don't go to the DMV stations.
