View Full Version : Winter mods......

What have you all got on the menu for this winter? FOr a change I don't have much (if i can make it to Island and back Sunday the car will have been running ALL YEAR LONG! And I'm not racing so I have a 50/50 chance!). Here is my list:

-Looser torque converter, mine is just way too tight, it has to be hurting the transmission, and I am going to up the stall to either 3200 or 3600
-Shocks/springs. 150 track passes and 40,000 miles have finally worn out my stockers. I am actually leaning toward the Edelbrocks, not a big fan of adjusting shocks and the cars I have driven with the Edelbrocks handle great and are still cutting awesome 60's at the track.
-Rebuild the rear My Posi is starting to make some noise and I want to put in higher gears, the 4.10's are killing me with the A4 so it is goingto be 3.55's or 3.42's going in and a detroit true-trac.
-Tires Tires Tires! I need some new rear street tires and a whole set of race tires.

Don't know if I will have the cash for all of it, the converter and street tires are the only real priority right now.

So what are you guys up to?

No real mods I'm looking into right now. However, I would like to clean up my engine bay and get that looking right. I need to paint the inner portion of the rear brake discs because they are rusty looking.

Mods Left to the car that I want:
12-bolt rear
shocks/springs
better front brake setup

Money is the only thing holding me up right now.

hmm, no money and no place to work on my cars in the cold months = no mods. maybe if we have a warmish winter some cleaning will be in orderer, maybe polish the LT1 manifold

Yea thats why when I get what I want Im gonna have a grand to throw at it right away...Im narrowed down to either a 4v stang (new egde Cobra or mach) or a LS1. That should get either moving enough to hold me for awhile.

Mods for which car?

- I hope the 69 Z28 makes enough progress to be completed next year!
- If I keep the 70 SS396 I need to do some wiring/alternator fixes and would like to find a decent carb for it. It could really use some new valve seals too.
- I just grabbed a set of headers for the 2000 SS so if I can time things out well I might be able to get them on before winter. It's the daily beater so I can't have too much down time with it.

Main thing is I wanna start body work on the 86 once it gets bad outside. That way I wont have anything to do and can devote time to the car.

as for a shopping list.....
The 4th gen:
a set of DR's
3.90 or 4.10 rear

Thirdgen:
Tubular K and A-Arms
Interior parts (headliner, carpet, doorpanels)
Tranny rebuild
New rearend

Silverado:
New plugs, wires and trans filter. Bought all this a while ago and never installed them.

Bike:
Maybe a different style seat, or some chrome pieces but nothing much. Its just going to sit on the battery tender.

Daily saturn:
Tires brakes and a muffler.

Hopefully the 383 will be fixed by spring. For now the stock shortblock is almost reinstalled.

Might have a line on a bigger Supercharger?

Also redoing most of the wiring harness to clean up the engine bay.

And my wife just did the delete Ford mod! Traded in the POS escape for a new trailblazer! Of course, that does mean less mod money for the Z....

Not brand specific here love both, Mach's run very similar to Ls1's and terminators will crush them. Ive had 2 Lt1's and a Ls1 just thinking its time for a change.

You might get a Mach that run with a 98-00 LS1, but I've never seen a Mach in the 12's stock. The only car I've seen run with them stock is the 03-04 Cobra. What the hell is a Terminator mustang? Get which one you want to get, don't let us knuckle heads jade you.

Mach's run the same times as LS1's including 00-02's, they just dont trap as high. Dont see many 6spd ls1's running 12's stock either. Terminator mustang is a 03-04 Cobra...Think John Colleti head of SVT came up w/ it.

T-Type: Install new fuel pumps and fuel tank. Bleed brakes. Get it running and ship it out to Savitske's to have the front end sorted out, and have a bunch of other things done that I don't feel like doing. Also looking into new flat black paint job with skull/barbed wire graphics.

AMX: Take care of belt throwing problem, finish wiring up electric fans, and get it back into storage.

Cavalier: Install headers, Random Tech cat, and Borla exhaust. Play with tuning via HP Tuners.

but still take LS1 over that b/c much lighter N/A motor, could be supercharged to to make better results, better handling car although i think stang is built better but make sure ur ready to take care of the rear and thats on both cars b/c ford's IRS sucks alot more than GM's 7.5"

post up how that HSR compares to TPI. I know it'll raise your RPM and powerband but at the same time it'll distribute your power more evenly so you won't have that gut wrenching low end torque...at least so I've heard. I'm just curious because I'd like to throw together a 400 sbc I have with the HSR or possibly upgrade the TPI and just use the HSR again later down the road.

Will do. I plan on taking it to Crazy Horse in South Amboy to have it dyno'd before I do the install. The car sat for a good while and is in dire need of a tune up. TPZ's best time with it was 13.5 on DR's. I bought it, put gas in it and ran a 13.8 on old dryrotted Kuhmo 712's. One plug boot is ripped and it arcs here and there. She's been kinda neglected the last few years so I figure Ill get a base pull, then do a tune up, HSR and anything else I can afford over the winter.

You want to be first in line? it will be for sale, just the blower and brackets and stuff, but not a complete kit, it will need some piping and no intercooler. Probably won't happen too soon, not for a few months.
