Enjoy the two months then break cleanly before you ship out. Last thing you want when you're overseas is all kinds of crap messing with your mind. Hopefully you two will get what you want outta the short time you have.

^ werd, best advice i see in this thread.

how long are you going to be overseas? or dont u know? (not overly familiar with the services) point is, she's gonna be a freshman in college, ur gonna be 10,000 miles away and if my math serves me correctly u'll have been with her 2-3 months at the time u ship out. the likelyhood of something going sideways before u get home is extremely high. of course i dont know her or u very well at all so i could be completely off base, but all i can think about is that movie jarhead. and it just makes sense that when ur over there concentrating on keeping u and your fellow servicemen alive, the last thing u want is the permeating distraction of wondering where she is, who she's talkin to, what she's doing, and obviously if she's still being faithful.

i gotta agree with untamed here. and hey, if u do break cleanly u can always rekindle the rela when u get home. good luck the decision bro and thank u for your service.

That movie sucks. Ask any Marine and they will say the same thing. The main character is the only guy that gets some man loving in Broke back mountain. I mean it is very fact based but it still sucks.

Actually I've been hanging out with Vewronica hardcore for the past 2 weeks or so. She is very into me becoming a Marine and is already very sad that I'm leaving. Shes already making plans for a return party.

From the stories a few of my military buds have told me, you are going to forget all about this girl the second you arrive at your first assignment after boot camp. Depending on your MOS, you'll meet and...uh...'conversate' with women all over the world. Enjoy it while it lasts and go to Parris Island with a clear head. You're gonna need it.

And again, God bless you for your service.

A little odd IMO but good luck with it. Now I don't know her, but considering she's a freshman in college, I'm going to go with things will happen. Could be wrong, but....that's my .02 Will be worse if she's a resident I would think.

Also, whats with the hostility? Seems kinda random but I could just be out of the loop. From what I've seen, even pertaining to my 20k in scholarships/year to Seton Hall, it is largely random.

EDIT: BTW, Tim, I agree with everything thats said already.. go out with her for a while, then split peacefully.. its not fair to either of you if you're shipped off somewhere and she's gotta stay home as a freshman with a boyfriend somewhere else. You should both go out, enjoy your time apart, and when you're both all done see if there's still an interest. Keep in touch with her definitely, but IMO, you'll get tired of her being so young after a while. 17-21 is a big 4 years, it will be better when you're 21 and 25.

Ted, it was supposed to be a joke dude. Didn't mean anything by it. All it was meant to be was a joke. I guess I went to far somehow? IDK. If you or JM are that mad about it then I apologize. There is no comparison of a 17 yr. old to a 22 yr old in Law School. You can't compare them.

All it was supposed to be was a funny joke. Everyone knows that JM is the ultimate in this fourm. I don't think there is one soul on here that doesn't know her or can say they don't like her. Its impossible for ANYONE to be better than JM. COME ON!!!! Its JM we are talking about. Who else can fire some random person? What other girl could possibly get along with all F bofy people and drive a mustang. That takes some amazing person.

I did read it melissa, it was just unfortunate that I haven't been around to respond when he intitially said it. JM told me about it and we took it the same way that matt and alex took it. We know tim jokes around but this was taking it too far, especially the second comment he made. Sarcasm and text = no good, if something is a joke use smiley's and lol as knipps and matt said so people know you are joking.

it's almost not even an issue of sarcasm through text, like add a smiley. i don't think having a happy face after "having a scholarship makes girlfriend smarter than jm" would have made me feel any better about it. i appreciate that tim didn't mean to hurt my feelings, was just attempting to "joke around" and was only sticking up for his girlfriend when jim made his joke. but as i said to him-- taking another, this time deeper jab at me just becuase jim tried to joke back with tim about girlfriend's car is NOT really the best avenue to protect her. i know that tim is not mean spirited and i'm not trying to keep yelling at him. i get now that he didn't mean to upset me. but as ted, alex, and matt pointed out, it was harsh and really not a joke at all. saying "she is cooler" is a joke. questioning the intelligence of a person who is in a totally different point in her life is just ridiculous, not to mention never a joke. as ted said, not for nothing but this girl has not even experienced the first week of college yet, let alone the rest of her senior year of high school. maybe i didn't get a scholarship, and yes my parents paid for my tuition, but i worked my *** off to get a finance degree in four years and get accepted into law school while i was stil 21 years old. i realize that the issue is not that i'm not smart, so i won't beat a dead horse, but at the same time i felt i needed to clarify.

yes my parents paid for my tuition.

I never said anyhting about who or what paid for your tuition. The whole money deal was about automobiles. Jims she drives a pathfinder so she is NOT smarter comment is what I was talking about. I mentioned nothing about how JM's amazing 4 yrs at Ramapo was paid for. It easly could of been said "yea well JM got her degree in 4 yrs!!" The average for any 4 yr degree I think now is like 5 and a half or something like that. I would love to see ANY person going into college do that now.

Anyhow, I am sorry for any type of meanness that may have come across.

diva had it right IMHO. i've had similiar experiences dating someone 3+ years younger than myself and diva's right, if she's not WELL beyond her years in terms of maturity and interests, there's going to come a point where u will become alittle frustrated with her age. even beyond that, ur individual worlds are much different because of the age difference. for me it was things like all of my friends would be going to a bar, club, or casino and i would then be faced with the choice of hangin with them or her as she was not old enough to get into those places. then of course there's the consideration of that if u were to be partying with her friends, alcohol is present, party gets busted and ur the only one 21+....guess who's going to jail. last but certainly not least, if the 'rents ever walk in on something no parent should ever see, it will be completely up to them whether or not u remain a free man.

certianly no easy answers any time ur dealin with the womenfolk but it's even tougher when u have SO many variables. whatever u decide bro, good luck.

As you get older, age matters less.. but in late teens and early 20s it seems to matter a lot.. I dated someone 2 years younger from 16-21, and a lot of times the age difference was excruciating.. now at 24 i'm with someone 6 years older and mostly its a non-issue.. like i said, age differences seem to fade with time i guess.
