When registering a vehicle, if the title is not your name can you still do it?

Reason asking is I work all next week and need to get a vehicle registered, and wanted to send my dad to do it. The vehicle will be in my name though, can that work or do I need to go?

I've had my dad do it for me.

When I went to Trenton for QQ tags I ran in to this because the car is in my Wifes name. I brought a copy of her license and a handwritten signed letter, by my Wife, that she was authorizing me to handle her motor vehicle transaction on this date. Had no problem with that documentation.
