Tonight my group (me and one other person) had our accounting presentation which we've known about and have been working at since September. I absolutely hate public speaking, so this has been in the back of my mind for a while. The presentation went awesome and the professor loved it. We were the only group that the professor clapped for. He went on to talk about how good ours was and kept saying how much he liked it etc. On another note, I feel a lot more confident now, especially because last time I had to get up and speak in front of the class was years ago. Just made me feel awesome and totally made my week :-D

I took a public speaking course once. I liked it a lot. I dont really have a problem talking in front of a large group of people though. some of the kids in my class would get up there and be shaking. I felt bad for them. and it figures that they were the ones acting like tough guys and as soon as they have to talk in front of everyone, they get all flustered.

glad your presentation went so well, its always a great feeling to accomplish something like that.

no matter how much they speak in public i don't think anyone ever gets 100% comfortable with it. in some ways it is good though, keeps you aware and on your toes.

congrats on the presentation.

When you have to get up in front of a group to speak, just imagine that the group is all in their underwear! That will loosen you up. Then start your speech with "BRICKA! BRACKA!..." You know the rest!

Congrats Ted. SPeaking in front of a crowd is never easy, and only becomes tolerable once you've done it a few hundred times. Those people who seem so relaxed up front only hide the anxiety that went into all the prep the hours and days before they stood up in front of the crowd. I make presentations to groups of people regularly. The key I have found is not imaging folks in their underwear, but by being confident that you actually know what you're talking about. Know the material backwards and forwards then... tell other people about it. That's all really.

Its easy for people, behind a keyboard, to encourage you to keep subjecting yourself to such things. But the best thing you really can do is speak publicly over and over until you've done it enough that you don't feel nervous in front of folks....

... that way when you're the CFO of a company that's hidden money, bilked investors, and underreported earnings for tax purposes, you can confidently tell the congressional hearing that you knew nothing about it... without breaking a sweat. ;)

Thanks everyone! and Untamed, you're absolutely right about knowing the material to give you confidence. I did know the material very well and thats what I kept saying to myself before the presentation. I was giving information that other people didn't know about and I think that's mostly why it went so smooth.
