My first day of substitute teaching! It was actually A LOT of fun. I covered for an old gym teacher @ my old Elementary school too so it was great.
I was dealing with 4th & 5th graders and we pretty much played dodge ball and I shot a few hoops during my breaks. Btw if you've seen kindergarden cop with Arnold, it is exactly like the movie! I kept relating lines & scenes from the movie to things I saw and it was pretty dam funny.
I can't wait to do it again, hopefully at the same school so I can hit on the other young and ver attractive teachers.

Awesome deal! How's the pay for subs in your district? I think where I work it's $70/day.

Haha funny how I just asked you about that like 2 days ago. Congrats! Gym teachers have the easiest/most fun jobs IMO. Play dodgeball all day long. Whew tough work.

Congrats Alex. The younger ages can be fun because they usually want to be there and the stuff you do is easier.
Don't do High School. If nothing else, many of the kids will be much bigger than you....

Its $80 a day in my town. It works out to almost $10.50/hr which is more then I make at the Liquor store. I did a hell of a lot less work too. I had 1 Prep, a canceled class, lunch duty & a lunch break. It was awesome.

I thought the same thing too, because about when Dodgeball came out while I was in High School they wouldn't let us play it anymore. But the 4th & 5th graders said they were allowed to play it. We played two variations, one was Castle, where you build a thing with hula-hoops, and you have to use these soft foam balls to knock them over. Th3 5th graders were getting intense and it just turned into "Whale the other person in the head". Then after I had 4 kids go to the nurse we switched it to "Snow-ball fight" where we use these softer yarn balls and the object of the game was obviously the basic idea was of dodgeball.

They said we weren't allowed to, but we did anyway, it was the activities we could sign up for in high school. They said they were gonna get rid of floor hockey too, but that stayed as well. And I graduated high school this past summer (07).

i remember floor hockey.. we played outside in the tennis courts but they made us stop when people were getting checked into the fencing, taking slapshots, and kids were leaving with bruised shins

We did it in the back gym, but ours was intense too. Everyone had bruised shins, one kid had to get surgery right under his eye because he got hit with a puck there, and there were plenty of bruises in other places as well - back, stomach, certain other areas....We broke sticks, there was the stupid vinyl pads on certain walls but we checked people into all of them.

The Middle School was HELL! Those kids are out of control and don't care. I only had to sub for half of the day and the last 2 classes (other was lunch duty) were absurd. I fear for our future with these kids. I was paired up with a Student Teacher who I knew from High School and she was very helpful but I could tell she had had enough. Even had to send a kid out of class.
If you think the High School is bad it isn't. Sure you have some troubled kids but like any High School aged kid, they just want to get out of there. They know that if they screw around to much their High School career will just get longer and they want nothing to do with that. They were a breeze!
