This is 1 of the 11 Hemi Cuda convertibles. It was originally restored by a guy here in NJ. I think he said he sold it for $50K back in 1987. Boy did he miss out!

No. The Nash Bridges Cuda was a 340 or 383 car, it wasn't anything special. I think they made it look like a 440 6 pack or hemi car, I can't remember which.

Its a shame. No one in the real world could afford a car like that and all its ever going to do is sit in someones collection instead of being driven.

On the bright side at least it will be preserved for later generations to see (if it were in a museum or something). I still don't understand the $$$$$, just talking about the never being driven aspect.

Personally,
I don't get too upset with the originals getting restored and being on display in museums. In reality those cars are no longer anything special from a pure performance sense. It is really easy to build an engine with similar performance for cheap now. If someone really wanted to drive something like that, they should buy a six cylinder or low level V8 car and put a comparable drive train in it.

I hear you. I'm no purist, but I hate seeing nice originals cut up at this point - there are enough cars to modify. There is a guy on nastyz selling his original LT-1 block (vin# and all) to help finance a new BBC. He needs to save that motor. He is being pennywise and poundfoolish, as the saying goes.

I knew a guy that had the only missing 1970 hemi cuda convertible. It needed to be restored and he was only asking 60k for it. I think I posted something on it here maybe two years ago. Too bad nobody picked it up, you maybe would invest 200k in the resto, and make millions on it on B.J.. Jackson has one of them, Leno has another, and the other three are in private collections. He also had the original prototype '68 hemi Super Bee that was used as a test car and taken to auto shows and only had 13k miles on it, and he had both Spalding hemi GTX race cars, all needing resto and he was asking virtually nothing for them.

Doesn't matter how much power and performance today's muscle cars have. They'll never have the mystique of the originals.

BTW, in the pic from '86 the car's bumper is chrome, which I assume is original. But in the auction pictures the bumper is body colored. What's the deal?

Yes, although the Shaker said HEMI on the show, this will be the first real Hemi Nash Bridges car! It's hard to believe but of the 4-cars used in the show; none had a HEMI.

Interestingly enough, this car may have been the only REAL 'Cuda used in the show! Of the four built for the show only one was a '71. That car (#3) was originally a 318 which was swapped to a 440 for the show.

Yeah, but the Nash Bridges car did not have a hemi in it even though it was supposed to be a hemi car. They just cloned the car for the show to have the same look but nothing mechanical was the same. I remember hearing the Nash Bridges car was also painted some form of taxi cab yellow so it would look better on tv.

Oh, I shot one of the previous owner's a message about the front bumper and he said it's an original chrome bumper and silver grill car but he changed it to the painted bumper and grill because it looked better. I agree, it looks better, but to watch a car change hands several times for millions of dollars and it's not even a correct restoration just shows that people don't really know where or why the value is where it is.
