I am looking around to see if anyone knows of a good machine shop in S. Jersey? I have a SBC 350 Block number 10243880, and I am looking to get it Bored .30 over, cooked,and blue printed. The motor is just a block with cam bearings in it. I would have them out if I had the tool. I am going to assembly the whole motor myself so I don't need the machine shop to do that. I will also need me Crank looked at, to see if it has an cracks or need to be cut. Thanks and any information will help. If anyone got some pointer they can give me on building a good SBC let me know.

Where abouts in south Jersey? There is one near me in the pannsauken area but i don't know how far you want to drive to deliver the motor...

Blueprinting consists of adjusting all clearances to factory specs. If you dont have the internals, there is nothing to do besides do a rough bore, check the decks, and the line bore.

Maybe he just means that he wants the machine work done so that he can do the blueprinting?

blueprinting is a term like 3/4 race cam in the lingo today - it was required for motors that not many guys used for a hot rod in the 50s example olds 88 motor J series a real oddball no info on installing anything but the factorys try power and solid cam was all that was available erskin would make a cam but could not tell you if it fit like today < the blueprinting part a gas station did in those days -- funny some words just stick around i did a write up on cams on this site and it would be considered blueprinting in yesterdays shop build up - good to hear the tern used brings back lots of memorys of those days gone by > building a studealack 55 stude with a caddy motor and of corse it has to have a blueprinted motor > hope you dont think i am goofing of what you said its just a term from when i was a kid and not used a lot anymore - if you want to know what in those days it intailed i will be happy to write it out -- jz

all auto terms end up meaning different things to different people and the 3/4 race cam is one of them - the old timers in the 50s explained it to me this way on the flat head V8 fords when you bought a cam it was usually from erskin or isky, offinghouser < spelling but lots of local maching shops in those days had cam tool post grinders in their shops sooo they would take off the base circle the amount you wanted for more lift of the valve, alloy heads were smaller for greater compression ( combustion chamber ) but larger for valve location so you could get a base circle ground, but the trick was in the location it ended up in the cam timing and this is what they did put a batt charger on the batt compression tester in # 1 no other plugs and with the cam exposed they would crank the motor over and advance or retard the cam till the compression was the highest on the gage -- that was the sweet spot the motor made the most power so the term is like its 3/4 of the way their to a store bought unit hahahahahah its what i was told dont know if my leg was being pulled i was the kid in the shop in those days -- jz
