what a mess

I submitted my final paper for one of the online classes I took fall semester on Dec. 17 or 18. I got an e-mail last night from my professor saying that he reviewed my paper and found that I plagiarized and that it's a serious violation of academic integrity and I received an F for the paper as well as an F for my final grade, before even talking to me. He told me that I had a chance to raise the problem in front of the board, which is a HUGE process. Attached below was a link to the school's policy regarding plagiarism and cheating etc. So at this point I'm freaking out wondering what he thinks I plagiarized and had a hard time sleeping etc. I wrote him back right away expressing my concern and I didn't get a response till later on tonight. He attached a paragraph from my paper saying it was identical to another student's paper. The paragraph was one I submitted November 27 on our discussion board forum and being that it was my original work which was relevant to my current topic, I put it in the final paper. Well, everyone in the class participates and can see everyones posts..so this person apparently copied my work and put it in their paper. I e-mailed him back stating all that and included a screen shot of it from it's original posting on Nov. 27. I got an e-mail back from him with a half ass apology, he also told me that this other student plagiarized her entire paper and would be penalized for it. I'm happy it's resolved but I'm still annoyed at this guy. Within that link it states that if there is a discrepancy the professor is supposed to contact the student and try and work things out before any action is taken. He waited till the last minute, sent me an e-mail with this accusation and already gave me an F for the course, which was posted. He sent me that e-mail at the same time he e-mailed everyone else with their final grades. So after I receive my final grade from him, he's getting an e-mail back stating how I didn't appreciate being accused of plagiarizing and receiving an F before I could even explain myself, basically him not following proper procedure which was written in the link he told me to read! The chairperson of the department will also get an e-mail as well as the Dean. This guy is an assistant professor, so I'm hoping this will stir up some noise for him.

I've had to deal with that before myself. It sucks having a teacher like that who can really make your life painful until you get it resolved. Definitely make some noise about it and make sure the department head knows and that the grades get corrected and no marks are left on your transcript. Was it for a class that is for your major?

Just got an e-mail back, I earned a 95 on the paper and A- for the course. It's not for my major, I always seem to have a hard time with the gen ed teachers lol I've never had a problem with any business or accounting (my major) courses. I think I'll print all these e-mails and hold them until I graduate next December, just in case this incident appears again.

same thing happend to me at Ramapo. i got a wierd letter grade for the course and had to look up what it meant on the ramapo site, i couldnt believe what it was! so i emailed the teacher and never heard back until i got a paper from ramapo in the mail stating that the teacher changed the grade and his signature

I would demand his resignation. When I was in college we had a professor who took his tests directly from a workbook that he told us about. It was pathetic all you had to do was memorize answers not actually learn how to do the work. I presented this to the head of the accounting board and this professor needless to say was no longer at the school the following year.

If you open up your mouth now maybe he won't be able to dick someone over next year.
