If he only beat you by two cars with the 305, chances are you'll be neck and neck with him with an L98 car.

In reality, it's all gonna come down to the driver.

Like I said, it should come down to the driver.

We can sit here all day and debate which car would be faster, but that doesn't mean that you are a better driver that the guy with the SRT4.

dont worry about N2O. Do some mild bolt ons to get a bit more power and practice your abilities at the track before you race him.

Kid Racer
01-05-2008, 08:17 PM
im not worry about driving skills...i can drive and i have people that well say that the only thing i need to do is get to the track and see what i run people r telling me i need more then bolt ons....

SteveR
01-05-2008, 08:20 PM
I hear you, I'm not questioning your ability, just saying that after you do some work to the car and you're making more power, you should get a few runs under your belt to get a feel for how the car has changed before you go heads up.

OK racing is a sport and in sports not everybody plays by the same rules - bracket racers heavy, street, and super pro, and all of nhra for that fact try to snooker the other guy they almost always lift off the gas ( DRAGING THE BRAKE ) < the real term - to the other guy who is slower soooo if money comes in to it and it will you might be a target sooooo do all what you think you will need before a re match than you will have a 1/2 a chance of compeating apples to apples -- jz

racer ive got a 96 z28 w/lt1 (i know its different than your l98) but i can eat srt-4's and still have enough in the tank to tear up a tiburon . i have nothing but bolt-ons and a catback. dont let some 1 spitting hteir teeth at ya intimidate ya. get some bolt ons and run the car a few times till ur comfortable than whoop that PoS dodge!

btw the tiburon reference happened.. beat srt-4 only to have a tiburon that followed and watched try me next.... was on 287... silly ricers

you said he beat you by 2 car lengths.. what were the actual times? contrary to popular belief, real racing is measured in tenths not lengths..

in order for us to give you a better idea, we have to knwo what his car runs.

If you ran him on the street, you can only guess that he would have you by 2 cars at the 1/4.. he could have had you by 2 cars an 1/8 mile into it, you don't know if you both took off at the same time, is his car stock? i've seen srt-4s that are VERY quick.. sounds like too many variables that you don't know to be able to put any money or bragging rights on a stock 350..

NJSPEEDER

racing is about being quick, not fast. work on chassis and gearing and even if he manages an equal or little better power to weight ratio you will kill him.

could also put the car on a diet and take out somethings that aren't necessary

Skip the LT1 cam....it's not much bigger than an L98 cam to make it worthwhile.

Like what.I am already striping the inside out...I would take the front sway bar out but I don't wanna do that because people say it drives better with it in...

Just remove it for the race and then put it back on....it's only 6 bolts.

BTW, I hope that you are planning on racing him at the track this time.

will removing the front sway bar help me that much i mean how much does it wiegh..and what size cam so i go with i mean the lt1 cam with the spring locks and 24#injectors i was buying used for a 100 bucks...

Tru2Chevy
01-06-2008, 05:10 PM
The weight of the sway bar will vary slightly based on which one it is, but the biggest gain you'll see from it is that it will allow more weight transfer to the rear since the sway bar limits the movement of the front suspension.

I figured you wouldn't be paying much for the LT1 cam, but most people will say it's not worth the hassle of doing a cam swap for such a small gain.

okay so what cam do u think i should get..i mean anything has got to be better then what i have now right....

Well, just a cam isn't gonna do a tons for you anyway. You will still be held back by the stock TPI and heads.

My advice would be to actually get the car in your possession and go over it so you know exactly what you have and what kind of shape it's in.

Once you have that figured out, then you can start planning your upgrades.

do you know what your current car even runs yet? what kind of shape is the chassis in? what are your ET goals?

you seem to be all over the place as to what you want to do with the car. stop looking at parts catalogs and come up with a real life plan of what you want and how to get there.

just take a deep breath and realize that racing is like anything else you can learn in life. it is a step by step process.
to get yourself started, decide on a reasonable goal. something that makes sense for the limitation of the car and your budget.
the absolute most important thing to keep in mind if you are interested in racing is that it is not about speed, it is about time.
most of what you can do at the beginning to reduce time are increasing traction and picking rear gears that take advantage of the power and power band of the car.
once you get the car, get to a track ASAP and find out what you are working with. give the car a good tune up and check everything over to make sure it is all working good.

Kid Racer
01-06-2008, 08:18 PM
Okay i'll do that as soon as the track down here opens up..I dont know when they opean up but when they do i'll go and get back with you guys..So you guys can tell me what type of gears to get for it....

throttle body bypass. coolant is run thru the throttle body. its mainly to help heat the throttle body linkage in cold environments to prevent sticking. but it REALLY heats up the incoming air charge alot! think about it, TPI motors run HOT as is with 195 degree Tstats, and fans turning on at near 220 degrees. that hot coolant really heats up the incoming air thru the TB, and that robs power.

simple rerouting the coolant line, bypassin the Tb will keep your TB and plenum cooler while the car is running... so that keeps incoming air cooler.....

::google::got sear::got sear::got sear::got sear::got sear::got sear::got sear::got sear::got sear::got sear::got sear::got sear::google: People arent picking on you; But it gets quite annoying when you keep asking questions that could be answered with a simple search. You do come off a bit on the lazy/helpless side when you do that. Thirdgen.org has a good deal of stuff about third gens. People get tired of answering all of thes questions that could be easily found.
