Carnage - Always maintain your driveshafts

Just thought you'd enjoy seeing the latest damage to my Jeep.

Think this is due to a defective universal joint and/or bad driveline angle. Jeep was making some noise, so I checked it out and found nothing appeared to be wrong with it. Greased up the whole driveshaft and a month later, this is the result.

Thankfully, this finally blew in front of my house as I was putting it on a trailer to take to a buddy's house to fix. Despite this autopsy, I'm still at a loss as to the cause. It was well maintained. Gonna rebuild it and keep it as a spare (Got a few parts lying around).

I did one better LOL I took out both U joints the rear and the trans in one shot. nonetheless. Nice work!

mmm yes ive seen this before, happen to my camaro when i was on rt80 doing about 80, was a load bag and then all i herd i was hitting underneath not a fun time

i never broke a u joint i blew engines and trans before

When I get the new DS, I'm getting all new joints too. I want a DS loop. Even my wife's Pilot has them (2 to be exact). Maybe I'll take them. :nod:

We looked it over pretty well and it really didn't look like a bad angle at all. New shaft should be here tomorrow; just gotta scare up a new yoke because that got adiosed too.

The sound of what's left of your driveshaft smacking against the underside of your vehicle is one of the ugliest, most unsettling noises ever. I'd like to say I can only imagine what that sounds like at highway speed, but unfortunately I've got a pretty good idea.
