So, had to go to work around midnight last night to do some end of the year reviews for one of my employee's

Took the T/A and went on rt 80.

I was cruising between 70-75 mph.

I saw way ahead of me a state trooper pulled out of his hiding place. Now, I knew he hadn't tagged me with radar because I had several cars in front and to the right of me.

So, as soon as I saw him I carefully switched lanes and slowed down a bit.

Now I'm cruising doing just under 60 in a 55.

Of course..... he gets behind me and follows VERY close for 3 to 4 miles. I'm like WTF?!??!?!?! Either keep on cruising or pull me over?!?!?! So, I was driving VERY carefully and pretty damn close to the speed limit.

So, lights come on.... he pulls me over.....and sits there for about 2 minutes with his side light blinding me. Again, I'm like WTF??? You pulled me over.... now come on and tell me what I did?!?!?!

So, trooper comes up to the passenger window and it goes like this:

Trooper - I need your paperwork
Me - yes sir
Trooper - Do you know why I pulled you over?
Me - no sir
Trooper - 58 in a 55... and you were wandering a bit in your lane
Me - Well, I saw a state trooper pull out of the side of the highway and eventually follow me really close for almost 4 miles and I was getting nervous.
Trooper - I wasn't sure if you were drunk - what are you doing tonight
me - going to work for end of the year reviews

I hand my license and pba card to him

Trooper - looks like you aren't drunk so you can go - have a nice night

Sigh....... ya know..... I don't mind them doing their job..... but 58 in a 55????? If he didn't tail me for almost 4 miles I wouldn't have "wandered" slightly?!?!?!?!

Lame....but no ticket

Whew! Glad you didn't get a ticket! That would have been miserable, 58 in a 55.

sounds like the couple mph was his excuse to do a dwi checkpoint, had he given you a ticket id be as mad reading it as you were getting it.....but he got what he needed and sent you along. hopefully a little later he did the same thing and caught a real drunk.

Police Harassment! Im j/k.. hes just doing his job. Some 1 real close to me was in a pretty bad car wreck because of an a-hole leaving a bar in hackensack... unfortunately i know both people involved, so w/e the po po can do to fight drunk ****heels from driving let em do it.

i had a cop in paramus follow me for 5 miles, and just sit there behind me until i hit linwood ave in ridgewood (on 17)
another one in ramsey followed me for ~3 miles, down a main street onto a highway and off the highway... once he was out of his jurisdiction he gave up
both times i was wondering what the hell their problem was.

& idk if it's regulation or not but anytime i've been pulled over at night the cops have used the side light on my driver's side rearview mirror or some other spot, so i couldn't look behind me

its so they can seeee you. and so if you were the type to pull a weapon on him, its harder for you to get aim on him while hes walking up to you.

speaking of...

my roomy thought it would be a good idea to angle the light back at the cop via his power windows when the cop shined the light on him.

did NOT go over well.

couple days ago a cop saw me speeding and pulled a U then started being on my ass and actually followed me to my house i parked in the driveway and the cop stopped at the end of my house and turned his lights on as i was walking to the garage, i just kept going didnt bother then he jus pulled away, they gotta stop that if they dont have a clear reason to pull someone over then dont be on ther ass for so long!!!!!

Hey its nearly as bad as me I was doing 28mph in a 25mph on my street, I got pulled over in front of my house, the cop asked where I was coming from I told him i just came from my sisters bus stop and pointed in the back of the car, he then asks where I was heading I point at my house and say to my house. He then asks how fast i was going I say 28 in a 25 he was like it looked like you were moving really quick. Now at this point 3 of my neighbors come out of their homes. i looked at the oldest and just throw my hands up like I dont get it. The cop let me go then i drive 5ft into my driveway and get out of the car and laugh at my neighbors.

I move my mirrors everytime, but i just angle them upwards. i don't have a weapon so no need for the eight thousand lights in my face... I have my paperwork ready before they even get to my car.

but they dont know that and you have the eight thousand lights in your face because of that reason

i got pulled over once and the cop shined his light into my driver side mirror and i moved it. then he shined his passangerside spot light in my passangerside mirror and i moved that too. he wasnt to happy with me after that maneuver but no ticket

that's actually worse for you than waiting for him to come over.. for all he knows your ruffling through things for a weapon. you best bet is to stay still until he comes up to the window, then wait for him to watch you take your seat belt off and go into your glove box for your stuff...

Yea, that's what I always do. I just make sure I know where it is, so I don't keep an officer waiting long at my window.

We're forgetting this one little tidbit here.

Just because he didn't - or, may not have - gotten you on radar, he most likely observed your speed, followed shortly thereafter by the normal reaction: Slowing down and changing lanes. This sometimes triggers a response of: "Wow...that guy really doesn't want to be pulled over. I'm gonna pull him over."

Radar isn't 'Point at traffic and wait' (Although I'm sure there are plenty of cops that do). The actual theory is that an officer is trained to estimate speed within two miles per hour and observe the speed first, then CONFIRM the speed with radar. Testimony in court would go like this:

"I observed Mr. So and so's vehicle approaching at approximately 75 miles per hour. When I utilized my dash-mounted radar, I confirmed that he was traveling at 73 miles per hour."

It was probably like this: "Hmmm...that T/A is moving kind of fast. Ooops! Saw me...slowing down...let's check him out anyway. Not too fast. Weaving a little in the lane. Let's check him out and make sure he's not drunk before I set back up and catch someone going even faster than 70."

As for what to do when pulled over: Get all the way to the right. If it's dark out, turn on the interior light. Roll down both windows (Some cops love coming up on the passenger's side)Then put both hands on the steering wheel and wait for further instructions. The hands are the dangerous part because as pointed out earlier, when you can't see them, they could be reaching for guns.

My two cents. Glad it worked out.
