Info on changing my rear end

I have a 94 with rear drums. Im looking for information on how i should go about upgrading them to disk breaks. If you could bear with me im not a car guy but i am slowly becoming one everythime something goes wrong with my car.

-what does "posi" mean when you talk about a rear end?
-what gears should i be looking for? what year f-bodys should i look for?

I guess well start there, and again im sorry i dont know more - im gona do some searching on this board, but i wanted to post something.

ok i understand posi...ha, sorry i wasnt sure i was correct, but i was right. so i want a posi rear: found one out of a 94 for $250 ( is that a decent price) but what is a shop going to charge me (ball park) to install.

im selling one on craigslist and i think we have been e-mailing eachother its not a tough job to install it all you need is a floor jack and spring compressor

You don't need a spring compressor to change in a rear in a 3rd or 4th gen.

the hardest part will be changing the brakes over from drum to disc, ie bleeding etc. ive done several rear end swaps, f and g bodies and it can go real quick

Where you located at and do you have the rear now? i jsut installed one last december in bubba's car, and several times in mine. Id have no problem banging that out on a weekend day. PM me and we'll see whats up.

Id find a whole rear end, contemporary corvette has them... no sense in converting over cost way too much..

def don't need a spring compressor.. I had the camaro on floor jacks and the rear on a jack and did it that way...... The conversion from drum to disc is no change in brakes on a 3rd gen atleast, except for proportioning valve.....

I bought my 3.42 posi from them, they had a crazy sale on ebay $100 and $100 shipping to a business. Good people to deal with.

I just put a new rear in my '83 camaro, its real easy, just take bolts out and put them back in. :)
