I believe that was the AC Expressway....the cops closed off at least one lane for the ~500 vettes that registered to participate. It was Kerbeck's Toys for Tots run....

Indeed it is the ac expressway, shoulda went this year looks like it was a lot more organized with getting the road shut down for the run.

Don't get me WRONG. I would LOVE to do 175+ mph in a Vette or modified F-Body, but I don't think anybody on this thread had considered how FAST an accident i.e., DEER, ANOTHER CAR etc. would come up on you, and you would have ZERO time to react. Nobody is wearing a HELMET, has a ROLL CAGE or any safety equipment at all. That A S S hole was going 175+ past cars that looked like they were standing still. What if ANY of those cars had decided to move out of the way, but did not anticipate the CLOSING RATE of that car? Instant destruction to at least two cars, and a hell of a lot more that would caught in the aftermath. Of course NOTHING could happen, as we watched the video and were thrilled at the outcome. But as a famous bumper sticker once said "S H I T HAPPENS"! Just my :2cents:

I'm kinda agreeing with you Ed. And this was a charity event run, and someone has to be the "LOOK AT ME" guy that ruins it (luckily not in this case).

I guess it is tempting if you got a fast enough car, but one slip up and the whole event gets ruined for the years to come.

I should clarify that I'm not saying that this isn't a sweet video to watch, cause it is. And I'm condoning this dude cause others were speeding and I don't know the full background of the whole event. I was speaking in general from what i see during motorcycle runs and such like that. When towns and authorites go out of their way to make something possible, and people don't take into consideration of being civil.

That video looks like insane fun though

I'll be the first to admit too being the "LOOK AT ME!!!!" guy...I believe theres pics some where lol. I'll also be the 1st to admit when it doesn't go as planned "that guy" feels like a total asshat. Not a smart move, but ubercool to watch

My understanding is that the road was closed to the public by the police. I didn't see anything but vettes in the video.

If that were the case, then that's cool, but I doubt the unreal speeding was allowed. My main point was that there were other cars going a LOT SLOWER than the guy doing 175+. Driving by MYSELF(with no other cars in the area), I would love to try that! There must be a math major amongst someone here that can figure how much ground you cover, going in a vehicle @ 175 mph that weighs about 3,500(including 2 passengers). When you watch a NASCAR race, everybody is going at the same rate of speed, but here you mix in MUCH slower cars and you get a recipe for death. Look on the bright side, it will be really cheap to bury you, because the biggest pieces they will find will fit into an ENVELOPE! :omg:

Fun vid to watch, but since we got on the topic of "what if", an accident would've probably taken out a ton of cars. Because in the vid of one of the vettes that got passed, you could clearly see that another vette was actually right up on his tail the whole time, and a 3rd vette was only a few seconds behind them. So thats at least 3 cars that were doing 170+ in close proximity to eachother. Trying to avoid an accident ahead would probably take out at least 10 cars all going 100+.

No one's arguing that point. If you wanna do that on the turnpike and fold yourself in half that's perfectly fine with me.

Just don't put anyone else in the position that YOU can fold THEM in half too.

Valid points in your posts however don't you think that EVERYONE had their head on a swivel in case you had a few showoffs? I'm not saying this guy was right for doing 170 but I'm in a pack of performance cars driving together I'm constantly looking around me for the showoff to come flying past.

That's exactly what I do when I roll around with my friends. You have to know what's going on around you before you do anything.
