Here is how is sits in epoxy primer

I have 38 pages of progress on the car on my site

It has been a long slow process the last 4 years. Hopefully it goes to the body man for paint in March finally.

I don't have any digital pictures of the JL8 car before I took it apart, just good old film. But here are some shots of the car as it came back from Redi Strip after going through the chemical stripping and oven baking to remove all the old paint/filler and to neutralize any rust(not much at all). Even though it was mostly rust free, both quarters had enough damage and prior repairs that we decided to put NOS quarters/tailpanel on the car.

Gee that shop looks familiar. I am pretty sure in the one picture with the people sitting in the background the guy on the right is my cousin. And I know a funny story about the guy with the long hair on the left,

Holding up his ceiling?

he had to do that to square the body up.

he had to do that to square the body up.

Yep, that's it. The car was in an accident and had some amateur body work done before I owned it (think fiberglass over holes) so I wanted to square it up. When I dropped the plumb lines and leveled it out it ended up that the body was mostly straight aside from one corner that is too high. So I made the "jackstands" in the back out of brake rotors and rectangular tubing at a fixed height (the proper height of the rear) and jacked the car DOWN on that corner to meet the right height. Then I can replace the panels around the bottle jack and work the stress out (I hope).

This is my 1987 Cutlass Supreme Salon. This was my first car and is the slowest vehicle on the planet to the best of my knowledge. It is still completely stock. I plan on dropping in a 455 Olds or if the performance parts for that are to pricey then i am gonna go with a 454 which are a bit more common. I am going to redo the interior with white suede hopefully(why? cuz im nuts). The paint is still undecided but will prob. be a metallic or heave metal flake bright blue. The one pic shows that the passenger seat is removed. That is because I cut it apart for the templates to make new seat upholstery.

Here is the short version of what I posted at NastyZ...which is the shorter version of my fQuick entry.

I bought this for some fun while I build my 67RS. Looked like a nice driver. But the clutch was bad due to oil contamination. So 18 months later it was on the road again. Short term is to get her to be a solid cruiser, and when the 67 is done, tear this car down & do it 'right'

http://www.fquick.com/images/vehicles/full/48867600.jpg

http://www.fquick.com/images/vehicles/full/4888958.jpg

Factory Options:
It's a real Z28, 350 4bbl/ST-10 4-speed with factory A/C. That is about it. The person that ordered it did not spring for a posi, so I have a 3.73 open rear.

Exterior:
Current:
*It was heavily oxidized when I got it. 15 year old single stage red will do that. I buffed the crap out of it with passable results. A subsequent buffing & detailing job, with big Rich189 leading the way, the car now shines very red again. Big help.
*I replaced the missing bumper front fillers. Glass beading cleans them up very nicely.
*I got an NOS header emblem off eBay and an NOS 78 Z28 grill emblem off a Team Camaro member.
*Rebuilt the door hinges.
*The inner fenders, rad support, firewall, subframe and all the misc. brackets and such were blasted & painted semi-gloss black.
*The hood hinges were sand blasted & painted with Eastwood cast blast paint. But the RH hinge is now binding and the hood won’t close right. New hinge on the way. Don’t sandblast your hood hinges
*Latch hardware blasted & painted with cast blast. New hood insulation.
*Rad support cover painted with Rustoleum ‘hammered finish’ gray paint, as is the air filter.
*New battery tray
*Lots of stainless steel bolts.

Future Plans:
***Short term***
*Clean up the rear bumper fillers.
*Get the rockers painted black and the factory stripes applied to the current paint.
*Paint the front & rear windshield trim black, like OE
*Add factory style front spoiler if I can match the current paint.

***Long term ***
*Strip it to bare metal, make it smooth and paint it copper orange (think Sunset Orange Metallic) and correct factory style striping.
*Integrated subframe connectors.
*Possible fiberglass or modified bumpers
*17” or 18” wheels that are similar to the 5-spokes.
*Flush mount glass like a modern car – check out the Year One Bandit cars. *Possible flush mounted door handles
*Possible late model side view mirrors, if I can find something I like.
*Possible grill closeout of some sort. And between bumper & upper valance where there are no OE fillers

Interior Modifications:
Current:
*4th gen Camaro graphite gray leather seats. Power driver’s seat. I had to fab brackets from steel stock and parts of the 2nd gen seat tracks. I have to tinker more, the LF seat is too high.
*Someone changed the stock tan interior for what I believe is a black deluxe interior from an 80-81 Z28. Whoever did the dye/paint on the brown plastics did a good job, it held up well.
*I have one deck mounted 3-point seat belt in the back for my oldest son. The lap belt on the other side holds my youngest son’s car seat in nice & tight.

Future Plans:
*Finish the AC system
*New VDO gauges
*A late model lighted rearview mirror.
*Possibly a 4th gen center console
*Replacement headliner, dash pad, wiring, rug & some sound deadening
*Different door panels (maybe custom)
*Have rear seats recovered to match the front seats.
*New seat belts – possibly 4th gen belts
*New rear package tray.
*Vastly improved stereo system, with new deck speakers, a sub & dash speakers.

Performance:
It ain't a race car. But it's fun to drive. Needs more power.

Current:
*350 4-bolt main block, 882 heads
*Engine internals? Damn if I know. Stock rockers.
*Edelbrock double roller timing chain- because I had it on the shelf
*Fluiddampr – again, on the shelf
*Fel-pro TC, VC and one-piece oil pan gasket set. – it was leaking bad.
*Edelbrock Performer RPM Intake
*Holley single feed 600 CFM carb
*Accel Super coil in stock style cap, MSD wires with ‘custom’ wire retainers, NGK plugs
*3rd gen serpentine system – CS130 alt, etc….
*$13 Summit billet swivel t-stat housing
*180* high flow t-stat
*Hooker headers blasted and painted with Eastwood Manifold Paint – very impressed with this product - until they got wet :-x.
*Lightweight Proliance aluminum & plastic tank radiator – direct fit for this car. Works great.
*1993 Camaro LT1 cooling fans, driven by a DCC fan controller – also a very impressive product.
*New TRW motor mounts – made in the USA!
*Fancy custom Z28 crankcase breather!

Future:
***Short Term***
*New exhaust soon, still TBD.
*Maybe sit down & tune the poor thing.

***Long Term***
Who knows? Ideally, I think I’d like an aluminum headed 383 with EFI. Give me 400 at the crank and I will be happy. I think. EFI?

Suspension/Chassis:
The suspension was pretty soft and worn when I got it. The idler and center link were dangerously loose. Now it is tight and pleasurable to drive. And it stops well and rides very well. It handles pretty good, but it needs shocks and is severely tire limited. I knew the tires couldn’t keep up with some of the parts I installed, but if any part was bad (control arm bushings, etc.), I upgraded.

Current:
*GW Solid Body Mounts
*Alston Racing Sub frame connectors.
*SPC Adjustable upper control arms with hex adjusters from SC&C - http://www.scandc.com/
*GW Del-A-Lum lower control arm bushings
*Howe tall lower ball joints
*Hotchkis TVS System – front & rear springs & sway bars – I got too good a deal to pass up.
*Herb Adams mod to leaf spring perch.
*Complete front end rebuild with Moog parts.
*Edelbrock tie rod sleeves
*Steering box from WS6 3rd gen T/A, new lines, new pump, Magafine filter
*B-Body spindles, 12" 3rd gen 1LE rotors, Porterfield pads
*SS braided flex lines, new SS lines throughout.
*All new rear brake parts with Porterfield Shoes.
*Brake power booster replated & rebuilt by http://www.brakeboosters.com/ - excellent job
*245/60/15 Dunlop GT Qualifiers

Future:
***Short Term***
*Bilstein shocks – I need these bad!
*Alston Racing G-Braces – I need to modify the LH one before I can use them

***Long Term***
*17” or 18” tires & wheels (make/model TBD)
*Rear disc brakes, possible bigger front brakes
*Possible hydroboost setup
*Other mods – I have no idea.

Drivetrain:
Current:
*Borg-Warner aluminum case ST-10. 2.64 1st gear. All new seals. Still has the vin on it.
*Rebuilt OE shifter – ITM
*New Delco flywheel, Luk clutch
*Stock steel driveshaft
*3.73 open rear

Future:
*T56 6-speed transmission (or TKO600)
*New (aluminum?) driveshaft
*3:90 Posi

Electrical:
The original wiring harness was a melted mess – in fact I can’t believe the car hadn’t caught fire.

Current:
*All new AAW lighting & engine harness – top quality - http://www.americanautowire.com/
*Mad Enterprises Start ‘Em Up kit - Ford style starter solenoid - http://www.madelectrical.com/
*Entire engine harness modified. All power wires now run to distribution point on the LF fender rad support. Harness runs between fender & inner fender.
*Relay ‘center’ tucked under on the LF of the rad support. Currently the HEI is and headlights are wired. Future expansion is super easy.
*DCC fan controller mounted on custom bracket under RF fender behind the battery. A great product with questionable service - http://www.dccontrol.com/
*CS130 alternator – clocked to clear tall valve cover
*0/1g battery cables, 4g ground straps at battery and block.
*2nd power distribution point under RF fender behind the battery used for cooling and blower fans and later expansion.

Future:
*Rewire underdash and interior– hopefully AAW will make a classic update harness in time,

*Some kind of brighter headlights
*LED tail lights?
*3rd brake light assembly
*Relocate battery to trunk – using Optima or Odyssey battery.
*Some sort of GPS and alarm.

Its my 63 Chevy II Nova. I bought it about 3 years ago now, and it has sat on the side because I have to finish up the Chevelle first. I started accumulating parts for it, and have since stopped. I had a 96 LT1 a 4L60E trans, a 12bolt rear (with a 5.14 gear set and a welded spider gear! out of a circle track car), and some other stuff. I sold the 4l60, then the LT1, since I wanted to go a little more nostalgia with it.
Plans:
383 Stroker/4speed - 12bolt with 4:11s
Stock exterior in the original white, stock interior in red and a bench seat
Mini-tub with a custom front and rear subframe and a roll bar.

Im looking to make it a sleeper as best as I can, but until Im done school and have a steady job, its gonna sit (hopefully in the barn soon)

Eventually I will get to this:

It used to be Billy's car and he decided he didnt want to do it anymore, and since we both shared the same dream for the car he just passed it on to me. Its got a 440 and a 4speed in it. Im looking to use that 440 and 4speed in my Ram when the time comes, and I have another 440 built and ready to drop in it once I can find another 4speed for it (one that isnt a truck trans) I think I am just gonna use it to tow the Nova to the track, and have some fun on the street with here and there. but this wont be for quite some time.

87Fbird
04-13-2008, 09:28 PM
I got myself an 87 Firebird at the end of December 07. It's in my garage now and it's been there ever since i got it.
I still have the stock 305 in it. I got rid of all the emissions stuff and installed a set of shorty headers, lower temp thermostat, egr block off plate and pulled the ac off the motor. All the stuff under the dash came out except the guages and all the seats are gone. I got a rigid plastic racing seat, B&M ratchet shifter. I replaced the T5 and rebuilt a turbo 350 that just went in this weekend. Alot of modifications were required but things are working with some patience and help from my brother and friends. One friend hooked me up with a set of American racing rims and ET street radials. I have more work to button up the trans swap and it'll be driveable. My next plan is a set of 4.11 gears for the rear. After all the wrenching is done i'll paint it.
This set up is just for this summer. It's strictly a track car, not street legal. I'm keeping the stock 305 and minor mods so i can get to know the car and the track, i'm a rookie racer.
My big plans are already in the works and i have a few options. My brother has a 12 second 350 in his 70 Cutlass that i can have for my car. Or my buddy has a bare 400 block that i can build from scratch and make some nasty horsepower. I'm leaning more towards the 400 sbc to put a stroker crank, aluminum heads and all the goodies. I have a turbo 400 to go behind it and i'm looking for a 9" rear. After this summer i'll find out how fast i want to go and take it from there.
I always wanted a project car and the Firebird caught my eye. It was sitting in the weeds next to this guys garage with a grey hood, blue junk yard door, after market fender and the rest of the car is the original white. I got it for $400.

Few people even know about this car for the most part....

heres my one project... got the car in 1998... long term with this one. When i began i didnt know too much about cars and all, now ive progressed a lot and plan on going back through what i did so far and making changes... In 3 years i may start working on it again. With a battery, it will fire up, just no radiator installed so i cant let it run long.

BTW, its a 79 vette, with a 96 Impala SS LT1(6,609 original miles) 80-82 style wheels, zr1 replica rear bumoer, L88 hood, Daytona front bumper, and the wing is getting removed.

1992 Beretta GT Project

Exterior:

so far i got the bumpers on. ive acquired the skirts ive needed in almost mint condition. Parts for these cars are getting hard to find lately. I had to travel out to allentown pa to pick up the skirts with no cracks and the gtu spoiler (third gen style spoiler).

This is what i got so far and fixed...

Z26 bumpers
Z26 skirts
GTU spoiler
z51 rpo option sway bar (88 beretta gt only)
recessed front lighting and fogs
cooling system overhaul (40k miles)
low mileage 3.1 motor swap
new taillights and filler panels
NOS beretta gt decals (for after paint, not on car)

The interior is 90 percent restored with the exception of not being able to find a decents drivers seat or door panel.

http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i125/Jsaul83/interiord.jpg
http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i125/Jsaul83/interiorrear.jpg

not like anyone here really cares about a Beretta anyway. i have a lot of time looking for these parts, more time than actually spent working on the car. Remember these cars were a dime a dozen but were beat to crap. My goal is to have this car in better than showroom condition.

I do have a motorcycle jack but that big one is an old truck jack from like 1910. Full mechanical so its safer then any hydraulic. I aquired all my tools from my grandfather who was an engineer/tool fanatic. I got to many old tools including plenty of homemade ones. Im thinkin about strippin my car now and getting it sand blasted to do a full resto. Even tho i bought in parts and rebuilt the motor.

Here is my collection so far:

1974 Camaro
worked 350 in it, just picked it up a few months ago. I should have taken more before pictures. Needed more body work than anything. One owner, 62k original miles...new rear, rebuilt trans(as of yesterday) interior is mint. Don't know much about it...the car used to be red, was off the road for 10 years. Drove it for the first time Sunday and it rides perfectly
