Just wondering if anyone here does side jobs as an electrician. I have 2 wall sconces in my bathroom that I would like to have changed from pull strings to a wall switch to turn them on / off. Not sure how hard that is to do, but I'm willing to pay for your time and I'll buy whatever parts you need.
My time is pretty flexible day / night not a big deal but I'd like to get it done soon since I busted the wall open to install a new medicine cabinet.
Thanks...

i would be one of those electrician extraordinaries.
If the walls are open its not really a big deal. Where are you at? I may be able to do it, or with pics i could walk you through it.

Nope....babysitter. Or, rather...parent trainer. :)
Gebe, my dad knows quite a bit about running electricity. I can ask him how simple it is or is not.
Logically it really should only be running the electric currently attached to the sconce to the wall switch, then running a new wire to the sconce. But there has to be more to it then that.

Just don't let James near it  Or if you do make sure fire extinguishers are on hand...

i'll try to get pictures later of the mess that is my bathroom. LOL.
I don't think it's really a hard job to do, but it's WAY beyond my basic understanding of changing a fixture

ultimately, its easy as cake. You said the sconces now have pull-chains? that means that there is power in the boxes. If one box has 2 pieces of wire, and the other 1 piece, and im assuming it is steel jacked BX by your old plumbing pics, all you need to do is run a wire from the box with 2 wires going into it, over to the new switch box, hook a switch up, white to the top, black to the bottom, ground to green, and swap a couple wirenuts around in the sconce's box. Totally doable for a novice.
Only fun part would be if it is old BX, they didnt often use wirenuts, just tar and nastz *** tape to make connections. Its great fun getting them apart. Need to make sure the wires insulation, probably think cloth, is not shot and falling off.
Pics would be great, i could draw the instructions right on it for you if it is what i think.
