You should be able to pick one up at a beauty supply store if I'm not mistaken. Theres a few up here, my sister goes there all the time to pick up all that random hair stuff, ask your girlfriend where one is.

If you're going to go with a straight razor, you're also going to need a hone and strop. They require a lot of care and maintenance to keep the edge. The newer stainless steel ones are garbage. Your best bet is to get a very old, antique one that isn't nicked up.

What are you using for shaving cream? For me, a straight razor was a PITA, but I still use shaving soap and a brush with a off the shelf double blade and get a much better / closer shave.

i used to use a straight blade but have since given up on shaving. it's a pita that i don't have the need for anymore. i use a pair of clippers, like the peanut, because it gets close enough to the skin without ever breaking it or cutting me. most of the time i look like i have a 5 o'clock shadow, but what the hell, i am not in the navy anymore, why should i want a close shave?
i bought one of the five blade razors. i used it once and now my wife uses it. no matter what i used to shave with, it always cut me, or broke the skin so i had razor burn. i just don't have time for it anymore. it takes me all of one minute or less to cut the hair off of my face with the clippers, and usually i'll clip around my ears and shape up my neck while i'm at it.

I hate shaving. I'm one of those guys that I'll shave and a few hours later look like I still need a shave. I've tried just about everything from straight razors to the 5 blades to electric, shaving in all different directions, and nothing works. If you have dark, coarse facial hair you just have to deal with it.

Totally true. I shave twice a week. If others don't like it, F'em........I go to a professional when I want a straight razor shave. I only do it on special occasions. For a wedding, anniversary party or Christmas. A straight razor shave is like a wash, wax and interior detail on your car. When I think of a shave, it's like Homer Simpson thinking @ donuts or beer.

I use a straight razor, and have for a few years now. I love it! I only shave a few times a week, max, and it is nicer than a disposable because it doesnt clog up with longer hair.
They are a LOT of work though. I have the strope, bowl, badger hair brush, stand for the brush and 4 wetstones. My blade is of stainless steel German manufacture. I only really sharpen it when I droped (twice now) it. I will never go back to disposable, it isnt as good of a shave and the electric types always pulled the hair too much.
The worst part about it is trying to find high glycerin soap for shaving with, but a bar will last me over a year so it isnt that bad. I should point out that my blade was over $100.
Not many people have the balls to hold a 4" RAZOR blade to their neck to shave

I use a Mach 3 and a good Nivea gel cream; its gets a real good close shave and lasts a day for me, then again everyone is different. I've been meaning to pick up a straight blade to shape up my sides though. They always use one at the barber shop I go to.
