View Full Version : Carb Recommendations?
Engine is a moderate 355 4 bolt. Ported Vortec heads with bigger springs, retainers, valves.....ect....Comp Cams XE284H hydraulic flat tappet grind with .507/.510 lift and 240/246 duration @ .050, Edelbrock RPM Airgap intake.
Ive got a few QC's layin around that could be worked to flow a little better, but what would you recommend for a street/strip application?

What RPM do you plan on spinning the motor?

Rochester carb.
I wouldva run one on my SS if I had enough room under the stock hood.
4 spd stick.
1800 - 6500 RPM.
The reason Im asking is Im very familiar with Rochesters, but I have no experience with aftermarket stuff. I was looking at a Demon 650cfm, thinking it would flow better at higher RPM, but whatever it is, I want it to be mechanical secondaries because its basically the only thing I am familiar with tuning.

go with a Holley street avenger 670 or 750, I have a 670 on my 350 and its just a tad much

I would go with a Holley 750 DP or a Demon 750. The Holley Street Avengers are vac. secondary

I think a demon 750 will give too much flow, my friend runs one on his ss sprint car (he runs alcohol) and its perfect for him

I think a 650cfm mech secondary carb would be great for your application. A 750 might be too much.

the demon 650 I had on my 327 with similar setup worked amazing, however when I went to a 750DP of my buddies, it made quite a bit more power but seemed to sacrifice some low end torque. I think I dumped too much fuel down low, but when i was pulling from 2k+ I saw a difference. Now with a bigger cam and the 4speed I will be going with a 750. Its your choice but to be honest I think a 700 or a 750 would be my bet.

too much carb can have an adverse effect on the piston ring seal and fuel delution of the oil
i put 750s on 454 BBC motors with 9-1/2 compression and a small cam it makes it a neck snaper but than again its a street car for the most part you are doing - and bigger has some advantage in seat tuning only not for the long haul my choice for a carb would be a 600 top on an 850 bottom makes it work un real hard and has the WOT flow of good MPH in the traps - jz
Probably going with a Mighty Demon 650 with mechanical secondaries.
Thanks for the input guys.
