Hmmm, this could be the reason.

They have to recoop their loses and guess who is going to pay for it. Thanks Democraps.

Now don't get me wrong i don't feel bad for these scum sucking pigs, but the people are the ones that are going to pay for it, not them.

So lets take a look...

House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, D-Md., noted it was two years ago, when oil cost $55 a barrel, when Bush said oil companies need no government subsidies to pursue more oil or gas.
"With the price of oil hovering around $100 do we really believe this incentive is justified?" asked Hoyer. "Do these companies need taxpayer subsidies to look for new product? They don't need any incentive."

So Bush cuts his friends a break by using taxpayer subsidies to look for new oil, now that the oil companies are raking in BILLIONS of dollars at the pump AND from my taxes while getting a break from the goverment, and you are mad that since we are increasing their taxes, that is the reason oil went up?
Its a BS reason for themto jack up oil prices. They put the blame on the dems and it makes them look like bad guys, but in reality they will continue to make BILLIONS as we get nailed at the pump.
Do not blame the goverment for trying to tap into the super wealth that the oil companies are making instead of raising taxes on the people who have none.

And the best part, with all this extra money from both revenue to taxpayer contributions, THEY HAVENT MADE A NEW REFINERY OR **** IN THE PAST 30 YEARS!!

The oil industry has lobbied intensely against the House tax legislation, calling it a "discriminatory bill" that targets companies that already pay considerable taxes. "New taxes ... will even further reduce our energy security by discouraging new domestic oil and natural gas production and refinery capacity expansions," the American Petroleum Institute said in a statement.

Lying scumbag ********. Exxon made, what...32 billion dollars last year? BILLION DOLLARS!!

Since Katrina, gas has been out of control. They blame that it knocked out all this refinery capacity, I guess you dont build a refinery BELOW SEA LEVEL NEXT TO A MASSIVE BODY OF WATER!!
Friggin liars, andnothing is being done about it. Oil and Morgage people should be brought to trial for the **** they are pulling. Nothing is being done. People are suffering, **** goes on.
Rich get richer, the divide between the upper and lower classes grow larger as the middle class fades away. Military is expanded and spread thin, and massive political bickering between parties is constant.
All we need are the Huns, Goths, and Vandals....

How is a doomed bill the reason gas prices are climbing, since that's what you implied with the title

Al, you missed my point. They are making all this money regardless of what taxes are imposed on them by ANYONE because we the small people are the ones that suffer the consequences because they will just raise our prices at the PUMP. I have no sympathy for the gas companies I hope they all rot in hell.

But for ANYONE to recommend an increase in taxes that will cause them to increase cost to us is PATHETIC. Implement other laws like a structure for reasons why gas prices fluctuate .30 in a matter of a month. I mean come on we were down to almost 2.60 for Reg. and now it's back to almost $3.00 gimme a break.

They need to be REGULATED but a non-profit organization that answers to someone other then the president, like a judicial committee who can file a lawsuit against them if they try to gouge us like they are.

ANd I don't want to hear the arguement that we pay less than anywhere else in the world I don't like in Europe, China, India I live in Friggin America where this CRAP shouldn't be accepted. But like the sheep we are we just continue following the A@@ in front of us.

gas companies are using the FEAR of an imposed tax to say they need to offset the loss so they are preparing for the worst in case it gets passed. then after it truly gets squashed if it does they MIGHT bring the prices down a bit but more then likely it will be summer time and they will find another reason to either increase the prices or raise them again.

Actually they made 40 billion PROFIT in the fourth quarter alone.

To try and get some of that money back, Congress passed a bill to tax oil companies 18 billion a year, a small amount, considering they make that in profits in THREE WEEKS. And Bush veto'd it. Now THATS scumbag.

But for ANYONE to recommend an increase in taxes that will cause them to increase cost to us is PATHETIC.

The point is that Bush is nothing more than a puppet for the oil companies and won't do anything to stand up for .. hmm... Americans? Those pesky winy people that only want whats fair and whom voted his retard ass into office in the first place.

Gas prices? Diesel prices went from $3.15 about two weeks ago to $3.57 today? $0.42 in two weeks? Gas has not made the same jump so it can't be tied to crude production. What ******** excuse could there be other than price gouging? That's 13% increase. So while I feel your pain....I'm ready to jump off the Delaware Memorial Bridge.....

I love this country, but sometimes I wonder who's really in control.

Bush vetoed it..surprise surprise.

Prices will continue to get out of hand as speculation in the market grows and grows and people are making MILLIONS OF DOLLARS!!
Just like the housing market....people made MILLIONS of dollars, hundreds of millions by taking these crappy loans and selling them at market as prime stuff. Investigations need to be made, inquireries need to happen, but we are sitting here fighting about how a lady or a black guy would suck as a president.

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- President Bush, saying he was unaware of predictions of $4-a-gallon gasoline in the coming months, told reporters Thursday

When taking the question about the $4 milestone, Bush told the reporter, "That's interesting. I hadn't heard that."

Thanks to everyone who voted Republican in the last 2 elections.

Bush told reporters that in order for the use of renewable sources of energy - such as corn- and switchgrass-based ethanol - to become widespread, the country needs to increase domestic oil production and build new refineries.

jst in case your not up on it i will inform you it was not the repubs who shot down the refineries that were on the why to be built it was the tree huggers dude who wanted the save the spotted owls from the out of control oil spill in stead we got the Exxon Valdez < spelling - and i dont see those on the left jumping to their feet supporting that decision < fat so from mass and his bunch do you - its both sides who are at fault for all of it - you think gas is the only thing have you been to the food store and i filled my oil tank at the house and 450 glns was 1565 bucks - i dont see the show of hands for corzine either before hes gone rt 80 / rt 78 and 287 will have a toll and the parkway will be 25 bucks end to end just to drive on yea i know its bushes fault - taken out of content statements have no truth in the way they are portrayed CNN news - CNN the communist news network is at 20% of what Fox has in ratings because of that sort of smear they cant stop doing to their demise i might add -- jz

That is exactly what's driving up the price. Something needs to be done about the damn speculators.

Even if the bill wasn't veto'd, it wouldn't make difference. The scumbag oil companies would just raise prices to offset the cost of the additional tax, so it would only be US who would pay for it anyway.

It doesn't matter who's in office, demotrash or republiscum...the only people any of them care about are themselves and the special interests that fill their pockets. A republiscum is killing us at the national level, and the demotrash are outright robbing us blind at the state level. Pick your poison.

Oil company profits are not soley tied to the production and sale of gasoline. That is actually a very small part. 95% of everything you see and use in daily life is petroleum based. That is where the profit is coming from. Taxing an oil company for gas/energy purposes does not have any relationship to all the plastic stuff that is produced every day. It's not about taking sides, it's about reducing our dependence on oil for everything made from it, not just gas. Dems vs Repubs has nothing to do with our American self centeredness. People have to learn give things up and reduce consumption!

I think the gas prices would be higher IF the bill got passed. Just like my business, when I pay more for something i jack up the prices instantly. Just how it works. We pay what....$3.10 a gallon for super now, after that tax it would be $3.30 a gallon to offset the lose. I'd rather it be veto'd and leave it the way it is, gotta take the lesser of 2 evils.
