Just wanted to let everyone know. Some may know already and I'm just an idiot. But anyway...for a 1996 Camaro Z28, that I am trying to keep legal, I did the whole no cats thing on my Monte and now I want to try the legal way.

I ordered a Magnaflow Catalytic convertor from Summit MPE-23517. The part they sent me did not have the needed O2 boss on the long pipe of the cat. Since I have seen the diagram of the cat on magnaflow websites I thought I got a defective part.

Called Summit and they sent me another Cat, which also did not have the O2 Boss. Now I feel like maybe Summit received a bad batch or something. The customer service guy at Summit was very helpful and I am very much aware its not Summit fault, its magnaflows fault.

The Summit Rep called Magnaflow and found out that none of the D/S Camaro 96-97 Cats come with an O2 sensor boss, the diagram on the website they say is incorrect. Summit did offer me the Catco version of what I need for $139 but I didn't like the idea of having two different brands of cats, since the passenger side is a Magnaflow (which did have the need O2 boss BTW).

I filed a formal complaint with Magnaflow so that they can change their website information. They claim that their D/S Cat for my car is 49 state legal and comes with the O2 boss, both which are incorrect. Of course the Magnaflow rep tried to ask if maybe I was wrong and that I did not need the O2 boss on that pipe, but I've been under that car one too many times and I know where that O2 sensor goes, just replaced it actually.

So to all beware if ordering Magnaflow D/S Catalytic convertor, it is not what it claims to be.

Ok lengthy rant over...I feel a little better now...lol

Don't forget though, once you've drilled your bung, you need to tap your bung as well. Are you gonna get someone else to tap your bung for you, or can you handle it?

Magnaflow, Catco and Carsound are all made by the same supplier. I think the only difference is the pipe portion, not the cat body. You should just swap it for the Catco like Summit offered. I've ran 2 different brand cats on my 96 SS with Pacesetter longtube headers and there was no problem. This way, your bung won't need to be tapped!

Really? I was not aware of that, if I knew it sooner I would have done it.

But that's ok. At this point it would be no big deal to uh tap that bung... lol I'm going to go to town on that bung...
