ok so my t5 whines in first and second under load and deccel, neutral its fine. so anyways i was told its probably the bearings or the syncros are shot. but anyways, so its probably needing a rebuilt...now, i was looking in to the world class upgrade. does anyone have any pros/cons on it? and price comparison? Thanks.

What year is it? The wc units started in 88. If it whines it useally is a sign that it has been run low on fluid sometime during it's life. The bearings never really go bad to often in those. The head gears or the maindrive gear and the main driven gear wear because that is where the most heat is. Drain it see how much is in there? You can change with new fluid but the damage is already done probably. It will still whine. Bob

Just curious what makes the T5 in the mustangs better? I know that they where world class units but what else made them stronger than the ones in F-bodies?

F-body 88+ WCT5 305lbs
Mustang 84(?)-89 WCT5 265lbs
Mustang 90+ WCT5 305lbs
Ford used the Worldclass spec internals first, but did not use stronger gears till 2 years after GM.
Other differences i can think of (other then the obvious clutch and bellhousings) is that the 'stang transmissions don't have tq provisions, 10 spline input shafts, different size out put shafts also. Allthough I could be wrong.

Ok. A couple friends of mine had mustangs with T5's. One friend had quite a bit of work done and would beat the hell out of it and the trans would keap going. Thats why I asked.

ok well it was driven without fluid for about 20 miles for one day. I realized it had no fluid when it started whining...so is it worth it to rebuild it or find a decent one for cheap somewhere?

ford also had the Z-spec trans with a 2.95 first gear and like a .6x 5th and was rated at 330ft/lbs...and i can vouch that they can take a beating
if youre set on a T5, a World Class should be fine for what you have listed in your sig...next step up is a TKO or T56, or an aftermarket T5 like Gforce

The biggest problem with the T5 is the case itself.. under load when it tweaks or cracks is when things go wrong...if you need a trans spending around $500 on a used t5 in good shape is a deal..spending any more then that to have it rebuilt you would be better off saving for a tko or gforce.

thanks for the help :) im probably just going to use and abuse my old t5 til it grenades. i doubt it will tho cause i only have a 305 and mainly street use no hardcore track use so it should be ok til i can get a tko or a 6-spd

update, i took it to my trans guy the other day, he took it apart in front of me showed me what was wrong, not much btw, and ill have it back tomorrow. He said 1st and 2nd have some wear and hot spots on the gears and will whine but he said the rest is good so if i can live with the whining it will be ok. so for now ill have a 'blower' at low speed haha
