it would be my opinion the block was and is a second off the line to correct the mistake it was re bored over .060 - being a production GM original not a Bo Ty it does not have Siamese cylinders and the case is not as thick as you might think - it is a tall deck .400 and the intake, exhaust manifolds , distributor, are special to it as well not a good choice if you are not up to date on what to do - jz

today finding a good used block is a real tough thing having said that their are some around -- how much power do you want we had a BBC dragster that was in the 9s 15 years ago < when that was fast 454 100 over 13 to one 2 bolt main went 400 passses down the the track before we sold it and the guy used it two more years before he took it apart not blown up -- what are you building ????????????? -- jz

Yeah, the tall deck alone can lead to a myriad of clearance issues.

John, I'm starting to notice a lot of builders say they now prefer new blocks because really good cores are harder to get, and after all the machine $$ to get it right, a new block becomes more cost effective. Thoughts?

I'd like to see something close to 800 or more, a roots style blower will be used and streetabiltiy isn't to big of an issue as it will not see many street miles at all.

the 3 blocks that are cost reasonable is the world < was a good piece soft metal to hone like it has been made of sand But still a good product - on the CK10 it sheds off metal like sand but hones smooth we brush hone after the final hone and it looks bad i would have to say but it works well in use - world castings in LI NY

dart machine : it was a very hard unit almost stone like to hone < the early 440 dodges were like that But now they have changed it dont know why but i like it better than before an it was good than as well but different < my choice of the 3 Has many options available steel caps / nodular caps and cross drilled as well as a few others but it gets the cost up big and little M

than Chevy's bo ty dont confuse this block with the production unit it is not the same -- the bo ty race unit is pricey 3500 and more and is limited in what you can get - solid foundation for any race program heavy tho maybe the heaviest of the bunch < thick every place and tap it with a metal hammer and it rings < real strong
