I was wondering- anybody know if i can make my own lock up kit to lock the converter (for the track) and how? i remember seeing something on thirdgen.org a while back too

I have a stall converter for my 89 camaro now, and i heard from a few members on the boards that i could pick up a few mph and run a lil better down the track if i used the lockup kit.

i found 2 kits on summit- one was 79.00 and one was 159.00

if i can make my own, that would be fine. i have switches, wire, and connectors.

I had one installed on my 1989 Turbo T/A. Jimmy Deladsandro (who was the master of tuning Grand Nationals) put a switch under my dash. All I had to do was do my burnout and stage. As soon as I was staged, I'ed flip the switch and it locked up the converter. As soon as I went thru the lights, I would flip the switch back on. I do know if it was used too ofter, it could burn up the converter, but I was told it would pick up 2-3 mph and knock off a tenth or two. I can't help you with how it was wired, but it can be done. I also had the 200R4 trans in there, so maybe the 700R4 would hold up better.
