the only thing I can remember about them is that the 97 and 98 year GTP's had problems with the place inbetween the valves cracking. We have a few experianced guys on here with them, so they should be chimming in soon. I love those cars too, and wish I could afford one, I wouldnt mind cruising in one of those.

I never had that problem, but I didn't beat on mine hard for very long.
Mine is a '97, I've been driving it since 2000. No real problems other than having to replace the blower (since the original owner never changed the supercharger oil), the fuel sender, and the stupid fuel pump resistor going out on me. It's a solid car and can be made to be pretty quick for not that much money.

A guy at my job has a '99 gtp with 55k miles on it. Hes the original owner and has never had the car over 90 (hes older). Its never seen snow and never been hit. Ive been after him to sell it to me since the day I started but he's attached to it like Civics and fart pipes.

Heres the info I got form a site that sells rebuilt heads:
The returned cylinder heads MUST be from a late 1998 or newer engine as prior to mid-1998, GM used smaller valvespring pilot seats and the heads were prone to cracking at these locations. The core heads must include valves and be in rebuildable condition. Seals, springs retainers or keepers need not be included as we replace these.

see fit he supercharger belt, tensioner, idler pulley have been replaced, we use to get alot of them that would lock up and destroy both belts

i had an 01. drove it, modded it, tuned it, beat the snot out of it and sold it. overall i would say it was pretty fun DD, but id rather have a V8 so i sold it and got a truck. dont get me wrong, i loved it to death, but i had a little problem with breaking axles

The only thing I had to replace was the BOSCH pressure regulator in the trans. When I got on it, instead of the wheels just spinning, it would hop up and down. Other then the valve covers leaking, it ran like a raped ape and this was the Regal GS. Surprised quite a few "HOT" muscle cars to! :drive:

I have a 2002 GTP and Martin, DarkNight has a 2000 GTP. Mine is stock with 80,000 miles and his is modded with over 100,000 miles. Both run absolutely great as DD's. We have a little fun on the side, a Lightning and a Z28, but nothing beats the GTP. I'm currently trying to trade it in, but I owe way more on it then its worth, cuz with my gtp payment, I'm also paying for an eclipse I had for 5 months lol. He's also trying to sell his but he does have the higher mileage.

Well according to the banner at the top of the site I have not posted in a few weeks so perhaps I should chime in here.
I like my GTP, I have a Thrasher CAI, Random Tech downpipe w/hi flow cat and U-Bend delete, colder plugs and stat, a reprogrammed PCM, SLP Power-Flo cat-back, and a 3.6" pulley on the S/C down from 3.8", I could probly drop to 3.5" or even 3.4" but my car has high miles (>108k) so I don't wanna risk it, I dropped the front by like .5" handles a lot better now. I raced a stick Hemi pickup with exhaust and a cai the other day made it my bi*ch, tires were smokin from a 25mph punch. I'd say it would probly run a low 14 sec 1/4. I ran a 14.7 with a crappy launch before the mods so YMMV.
Overal very decent DD, plus even modded, on my highway trips to AC I average >30MPG

thats very similar to the mods i had except i used a WBS DP. everything else was the same. whoever bought that car got a sweet deal i would say, especially with 4 new hankooks and 2 brand new axels in it
i also had the sway bar kit from pace
