Ok you wake up and God himself is standing in your bedroom. He says he has no more room for either of his 1970 SS Chevelle 454 and he will give you one of them. One is a Turbo 400 and the other is a M-22. Split second decision. Which do you take?

I ask because I have been brought up thinking that muscle cars were synonomyous with manual transmissions. Cause, they are, i dunno, preformance cars and not minivans. However I am surprised of the fan base for Automatics. Not sure why, unless people want to get a nano second more out of their 60" time the 3 times you bring it to the track that year, you still have to be stuck with a stupid dumb azz auto for the rest of the time you drive your car. Im just curious who preffers what and why? That and im extreemly bored at work today...

M22. Hands down, no contest. This would probably be a good poll...

Well i made the mistake of having an opinion and saying "i didnt like autos in an F-body" on LS1Tech and i think I am banned now. Every auto loving wuss who cant figure out a clutch in North america had something negitive to say.

Yeah, whatever... I agree with you.

I love my GTP but I hate the fact that it's auto even more than I do that it's FWD. A good friend of mine sold his 2000 Z28 because the auto was too boring. One of the bitches that people have about the new Chargers is that they are auto only.

An auto is more consistent and faster when you are drag racing, but aside from that it's dull on the street IMO. A manual valve body and ratchet shifter make it better.

that depends on if I'm going to be racing it or not. If I'm racing it, 400. If not, manual, definitely.

the only reason i bought an automatic car is because it was too good a price to pass up. The 6-Speeds especially the LS1 6-speeds seem to go for alot more

Manual for me

alamantia

member insomnia took me for a ride in his auto LS1 the other day and it has some balls for sure, couple that with a 3600 stall and it pulled hard so I dont knock them im just saying my personal prefferance for a preformance street car leans towards a manual. I always thought it would be hard to drive in europe with my left hand doing the shifting.

If dropped on my lap, Auto or Manual... I would go for the Manual. I'm sure it would be a blast to drive. For me I'm not an all out drag racer so I'd be content with my manual trans for cruising the strip and what not.

I'm not a drag-racer, so for me, there's no question - Manual! Putting the 5-speed in my Monte was one of the best mods I made; it's SO much more fun to drive.

What it comes down to is do you wanna DRIVE(manual) your car or be DRIVEN(auto). i like to be in control, my car is auto now but it will be getting the conversion soon as did my last 3rd gen

M-22. no contest. im tryin to get a t-56 for my 1st gen

go TKO they are stronger, better geared, and still have a .7 5th gear. besides all that the TKO isn't much more in price than a T-56 and its about 50lbs lighter

Depends on what im doing with the car.... most likely manual but when i bought my car i was so sick of driving my 02 stang gt (5 speed) vortec supercharged around up and down 130 in traffic coming from work it sucked....

I think it also pertains to where you live and drive is what kind of tranny you want. If you live in a mountainous area, tho it is fun to cruise around in a manual down the streets, when you come to a stop sign and your on an incline and you just happen to have someone about 4 inches from your bumper, yeah it sucks. My uncle lives in the black hills in South Dakota, and in their junkyards, theres alot more manuals cause people dont wanna drive them, they're too much of a pain. same thing goes for living in the city, all that stop and go, especially in traffic. But for the most part, in areas aof flatness, and rural, less traffic-like area's, like where I live, a manual is doable, and not a burden. Oh and as for the Chevelle, M-22 all the way.

Well, having driven both a 70 LS6 Chevelle with a M22 and, a 70 LS6 Chevelle with a TH400 that's a tough call. If I had to choose, I would pick the manual strictly for resale value but, the auto was more fun.

Auto...Im lazy.
I could get used to a DSG/SMG Automatice manual real fast.

Manual all the way. It's faster too. Uless the rules makers hang weight on you for using one like our class does. Nothing like pulling three gears hangin the hoops.

Not when talkign about drag racing applications... cuz if we are, without a doubt, stalled and built auto all the way

for street - manual
for racing - manual, up to a point, then auto

If traffic wasn't so ****** on my daily commute, it'd be manual. This is my first automatic car in years, and I find it to be quite refreshing compared to my manual tranny cars in a commute. Kind of useless for anything else though.
