I am installing 5 pt harnesses into a Chevelle right now, and I need to install mounting tabs for the lap belt. Two questions:
1.) Can you bolt tabs to the frame, and then the belts to the tabs? Or do the mounting tabs have to be welded to the frame?
2.) The sides of the lap belts that mount near the trans tunnel can't bolt to the frame (since it doesn't run there). Can I use 1/8" 6x6 plate to mount them into (like you would with a roll bar)?

I have the rule book in front of me. It does not specifically say in the general regulations (10:5 driver restraint systems) that you cant bolt tabs to the floor and then to the tab, but I did find under 10:11 (seat belts) that if you use steel plates they must be a min of 1/4" thickness.

1/4" thickness? Damn! The frame is only 1/8". What page is that on?

To be safe, buy the tabs from Jegs and weld them the the cage/floor.
