View Full Version : Sticking with domestics; Narrow Minded?

Just though I would share.

I got called narrow minded today by a BMW enthusiast for being a Fiero enthusiast. Apparently my disdain for Nissan 350z's and other cars of the rice and carb food group means I'm generally not a car enthusiast at all, better yet, did I even get to say anything about what I appreciate in other car makes? Noo.

I only drive a mitsubishi for a daily driver. I must be narrow minded.
I only have some honda CB 550 motorcycles, I must be narrow minded.

So sue me if I cringe when some jerk in a nissan puts a wing on his fwd car for more unnecessary downforce. It's not a manly car to me. Manly requires muscle. Give me an LS1 over all that import stuff.

what he did was stupid, but you can't deny the 350z is a phenomenal car. it just lacks power and has certain reliability issues (valvetrain, trans, and power accessories to name a few)

different strokes for different folks. some people don't care for any more power then the VQ can offer. and every car has its problems. the same can be said for the ls1. (think piston slap, 10 bolt, etc) the 350z handles great, and has comfort the fbody lacks. i was just playing devils advocate ;)

Oh sure, that's very true. But with this guy i never even got to speak my peace on that matter. Furthermore, he pointed out that he would rather have a car that works just fine "out of the box" than to be working on one all the time. True indeed. But you can't beat some family bonding over fixing an engine. Hahahaha. It's a hobby, what can I say?

All cars "work fine out of the box" unless you have a warranty issue. They get you from A to B. It's HOW to get from A to B that makes people want to change their ride.

again, different people like different things. i like being able to mess around with my car. for me, the fun is in the modification. his argument sucks, but you gotta respect other peoples opinions i guess.

i'm a car lover before i'm a domestic driver. i appreciate all cars, but i choose domestics. there is nothing wrong with either opinion. unfortunately idiots like him are too ignorant to see things in other people's point of view

theres a very thin line here. Many people think that if it isnt a domestic, its "stupid riceburning crap blah blah blah", but some just prefer domestics, but are still open minded to a well designed/fast/whatever import car. i prefer domestic cars, all of mine have been domestic (chevy, pontiac, ford, chevy, saturn, pontiac, ford) but i wouldnt hesitate about buying a well built/fast import.

Point being, a lot of people still think that domestics are the be-all end-all of performance, luxury, value, quality, etc...when in reality, each side has its pros and cons. Same goes for import drivers thinking theyre the best thing since sliced bread as well.

While I like GM cars, I do know the faults and problems that they have.

There are several groups of people. There are Enthuisats, car people, and everyone else. Enthusiasts eat, sleep, breath car. Car people know about cars, but more of a hobby. Everyone else is just that. If its pretty, colorful, turn the key and it goes, then they dont care. Its when there is a problem that they wish they were at least a bit interested. Current there is a woman right now with a major problem with her Expedition. Her rear axle seals are blown out, which has destroyed the ebrake shoes, and she is looking at my coworker like she just spoke to her in Braile.

As for domestic vs import, everyone will have thier side. While I respect and understand the strengths of the import cars and brands, I would prefer to stay with GM cars as long as they make quality cars. If someone instantaniously bash and crap on any import or domestic car just because thats what it is, then maybe that person is a touch ignorant.

i know about imports. i sold them for a while, and if you read my other post you know that i climbed into the research so i could tell people about them. i prefer not to drive them, even though i have driven many. one of the ones that stands out in my memory was the diamante. it was japanese, but it oozed luxury and if you nailed the throttle it would move and it could stop on a dime. i still wouldn't own one. i also drove toyotas and honduhs. on a day-to-day basis, i am talking. i will still keep buying domestic.

Yes i know that, but when I said Nissan I wasn't referring strictly to the 350z as i was in the previous statment. But i suppose I should have clarified otherwise so as not to look like a doof.

Yeah, nevermind the fact that they gave us both the Otto cycle and the Diesel cycle. And the fact that the jerkoffs that drive them are American.

I get called narrow minded all the time... Because I'm a "hater" of imports. This girl I've known since childhood swears 350z's and G35's will kill my Trans Am. I just find it funny people can be so ignorant when they have no idea what their talking about. At least when I "hate" theres good knowledge behind it lol.

And for the record I have a Mercedes S500, so I can't hate them that much!
