After having my 94 formula for about 5 months now i'm itching for a foxbody. I've always loved since i was little. Money is so tight and i dont really have a "job" so id have to get rid of the formy, unless i can find an LT1 camaro to trade for my car, but I'm kinda torn between it, i mean i like the firebird and all but foxbody is so tempting, and i already had a trade offer for a 93 LX vert 5-speed.. sorry had to get it off my chest.. now i'll wait for everyone to come in and yell at me for wanting a mustang

I like fox bodies too.

But I happen to like Trans Ams more.

Sounds like you'll have to wrestle with the decision and then always wonder if you made the right decision.

Good luck! :)

Yeah the formy is nice but it needs a tune and it seems like the parts for this are expensive.. argh still tough though.. anyone know what the difference on the insurance would be? im paying around $1300 for the formy and im 18 years old, no points, no accidents

well, when they bastardize a build, they put a chevy motor in a fox body mustang. wonder why that is?

i pay around $1000/year for insurance on mine. my saturn is actually more expensive to insure for some reason

Fox Bodies were my favorites growing up in the 80's-90's...Every now and then there's a clean stock or stockish one pops up for a great price. They hold there look very well especially w/ some newer style wheels and like mentioned before parts are cheap and there cake to work on.

Cheaper to mod but they also start out about a full second slower than a stock LT1 fbody so I guess it depends on how you look at things ;)

My friend's brother has a 96 4.6. Very ported stock heads (no aftermarket available from what i heard), radical cams, full boltons, shifter, 4.11s and slicks ran 13.6. A tad ridiculous no? I mean it is his DD so he didn't push it all the way, but he was at least 90% there. Sounds great and looks pretty nice but seems like a huge waste of money.

there are alot of modular heads availible. & 13.6 means he's going easy on it i see full bolt on N/A modular GT's with 373's and DR's going LOW 13 high 12 without cams

96-98 GTs have the non PI heads...and they pretty much suck

DOHC 4.6 is where its at....mmmmmm

and as far as being a second slower than an LT1 car...ive seen stock LX mustangs go loooow 14s with a 5 speed and a good driver...my 99% stock GT went 14.4 with a slipping clutch and eibach sportline springs (teh suck for launch)

a notchback 5.0 with a 5 speed, a good driver, short belted/free mods can click off a high 13.

I have an 04 GT Verte, it is a nice car. It is no where near as fast or as cool as my 95lt1 was but for a daily driver / sports car it is great. What I like best about it is the ride height is a bit higher so it is easy to get in and out of and even with the chin spoiler I can drive right up onto my ramps for easy maitenance. Another thing is my leather seat bolsters look as good as they did from the factory (one thing that always bothered me about 4th gens).

Pretty much what he said aside from the 4.6 being where it's at

Any LSx>4.6l

When I used to work at the ford dealer I saw alot of 4.6 mustangs come across my bay. The 4.6 motors runs so smooth and have good power but I hated working on those motors. If you had to do anything other than work on the intake it sucked to work on. I dont I just dont like the overhead cam motors, they just dont make as much low end torque as a good old pushrod motor.

PI?

GP99GT
04-04-2008, 07:10 PM
in 1999, Ford changed the heads on the motor to a different, more efficient design which gained 40 hp. These are called "PI" heads and came stock from 1999 - 2004. The term PI means "Power Induced". They are just a better head.

True, great set up. I'm still not that impressed with them N/A from the factory. I know the Mach1 was a decent runner but eh, they're better blown(then again what isn't?? lol)

4.6s a are cool but i dont like the body style especially from 94-98? was it.. the 99-04s were ok looking but i think the foxbodies are sexy. Ive always liked them since i was little. How are 5.0s performance wise? im guessing not as bad as the 305s..?

99-04 GTs are SOHC. one cam each head

wikipedia fails again

wow now that i look at that, it really fails. 94-95 GT mustangs had the 302, not a 351, and it says for the 95 Cobra R that its a Windsor family 4.6....uh....NO. THAT has the 351.

and now this post makes no sense cause Knipps deleted his post. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fourth-generation_Ford_Mustang

i meant modding from factory they both got weak points for F-bodys its the rear, for stangs its the suspention, but the initial cost difference and cheap parts give mustang a nice advantage over f-bodys

305/350 parts are just as cheap, if not cheaper than ford 302 parts. And I would also guess that 3rd gen parts are about as cheap as fox body parts.

I was talking about LS1's. You are not going to build a 4.6L stang cheaper than a LS1 Fbody.

Anyways, i think i'm leaning more towards keeping my car now.. i just realized with a few more mods and a tune i will make decent power without dumping alot of money into it

modular motor swaps into foxs are really popular... still a bit off topic lol
